As 2023 comes to a close, we’re taking time for a warmhearted and grateful look back at this year’s memorable moments and unexpected milestones. The Stitch it! Sisters and the Nancy Zieman Productions Team are honored to carry on Nancy’s love of sewing with you—Nancy’s dedicated viewers, readers, and friends. Thank you for your interest, support, and for your many contributions in carrying forward Nancy’s life work and mission of sharing the love of sewing. Our work is a labor of love, thanks to Nancy and thanks to you!
In January, we kicked off 2023 with our 2023 Block of the Month Fat Quarter Mystery Quilt Series. On the third Saturday each month, we release a FREE! quilt block sewing tutorial right here at the NZP Blog! As you may know, our 2023 Block of the Month Fat Quarter Mystery Quilt is a mystery no more – as our completed quilt design was revealed, for the first time, in our December 16, 2023 Blog Posting! We designed this year’s BoM quilt along with our friends at Benartex, to showcase the beauty of Bali Batiks. We’ve really enjoyed making this special BoM23 in two colorways and revealing the surprise patchwork heart design! Thank you for following along! And mark your calendars for Monday, January 1, 2024 – when we’ll be launching our 2024 Block of the Month Sew Along Quilt Series! Have you been thinking of making a quilt with our BoM series? The 2024 Block of the Month Mystery Quilt Series will be our absolute easiest BoM ever! We welcome everyone to join in, even if you’ve never before made a quilt!
In January, we recorded our NEW! Stitch it! Sisters Clever Coverstitch Bag Video with Deanna Springer and guest Pam Mahshie, Overlock Business Manager for BERNINA USA. Thank you to our many visitors for making the trip to Beaver Dam in 2023 to celebrate the life of our founder, friend, and host and producer of Sewing With Nancy, Nancy Zieman. The Nancy Had a Notion History Exhibit remains open for visitors on the 2nd Floor of the Sewing Studio! We look forward to seeing you here!

June brought the third annual Wisconsin Arts & Peony Festival, in Beaver Dam, WI, featuring art projects, music, food, tours of Ovan’s Peony Farm, The Great Wisconsin Quilt Show 100 Years of Art Deco Quilt Exhibit at the DCCA, and a tile painting event lead by artist Steven Bennett. 12″ square tiles were painted by community members for the fourth of four mosaic murals–installed on the east facing exterior wall of the Beaver Dam Area Community Theatre. The first three murals celebrate Nancy Zieman, Lois Ehlert, and Fred MacMurray!
During the 2023 Arts & Peony Festival, Artist Stephen Bennet (shown below with Poppy Shier) organized a mural painting event on Saturday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., behind The Nancy Zieman Sewing Studio, at the Beaver Dam Area Community Theater (BDACT) scene shop at 117 W. Maple Ave.
The event is free for people of all ages. No particular skills are required, other than to follow a few simple lines. Bennett donated his time and talents to this project. Four distinguished artists who have roots in Beaver Dam will be honored in this project, including Nancy Zieman, Lois Ehlert, Fred MacMurray, and Eric Kalkhurst.
This year on Saturday, June 10, Beaver Dam community members painted 12″ square tiles for the Eric Kalkhurst mural. Artist Stephen Bennet lead the mural installation in late October.

In July, we hosted our annual customer appreciation Brat Fry and Ice Cream Social at The Nancy Zieman Sewing Studio.
In August, we celebrated 40 years of Sewing With Nancy! Back in 1982 when the first Sewing With Nancy show aired, never did Nancy dream; #1, that she would record over 35 years of television, and #2 that her show would continue to air on multiple channels and across the internet including on YouTube, Create TV, Public Television, and online at nancyzieman.com!
In September, Team NZP launched our fifth annual I Sew For Fun Kids’ Sewing Challenge sponsored by Nancy Zieman Productions, Clover Needlecraft, Benartex and June Tailor. The challenge was for youth ages 15 and under to share how they “sew for fun”— while making a Cinch Sack with My Hero Fabric by Benartex; along with a Clover sewing tool. In September, we celebrated the 19th annual Great Wisconsin Quilt Show! PBS Wisconsin, and Nancy Zieman Productions, and a Team of Volunteers welcomed you to Madison, Wis., September 7-9, 2023.
Nancy Zieman’s 13th Annual Quilt To Give was again held in-person at onsite at The Great Wisconsin Quilt Show. We again stitched comfort quilts to welcome refugee children being resettled in Wisconsin. Your comfort quilts are included in welcome packages for our new neighbors, alongside PBS KIDS educational materials and distributed to families in their new communities throughout 2023. We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of your support!
Nancy’s words continue to say it all, “The love of sewing is our common thread”. Thank you for your incredible talents and efforts, and thank you for your creative kindness in 2023, and always!

The Nancy Zieman Sewing Studio and the Stitch it! Sisters again hosted our vendor booth at this year’s Great Wisconsin Quilt Show! Thank you to everyone who visited our booth and attended Quilting Lectures by Deanna, Dana, and Denise. Congratulations to our small but mighty team for taking our store on the road while also for keeping the store open in Beaver Dam–during the event! We had a great time seeing everyone this year and we’re looking forward to seeing you next year, September 5-7, 2024.

October is always an exciting month for Nancy Zieman Productions! Nancy Zieman started her first business, Nancy’s Notions, in October 1979, and her second business, Nancy Zieman Productions, in October 2007. Deanna Springer, along with her sisters Dana Casey and Denise Abel, and Richard Zieman, started ShopNZP.com and Stitch it! Sisters in October 2019, and we opened the NEW! Nancy Zieman Sewing Studio in October 2021!

In October, we celebrated the 2nd anniversary of The NEW! Nancy Zieman Sewing Studio ! We’re now open Monday through Saturday 10am-4pm at 120 Front Street in the fine arts district in downtown Beaver Dam, WI. We look forward to seeing you here!
The last Saturday in October is our annual Downtown Fall Fest in Beaver Dam, and the one day each year, Dana, Deanna, and Denise become the Witch it! Sisters. Front Street in closed to traffic during the day for a team of festival volunteers to host family events, games, food, trick-or-treating, and a costume contest! Next up, Cabin Fever Fest –annually on the last Saturday in January. See you then!
In November, Deanna headed to Iowa to meet up and sew for a week with quad-state sewing friends, Mary Mulari, Rita Farro, and Rhonda Pierce–for their annual S.E.W. Retreat at Circle K Farmhouse.

I look at my emails coming in from Nancy Zieman productions with anticipation. I watched the show every Saturday from the moment I saw it on PBS in Oregon. I purchased a Bernette B68 serger early in 2023 from your website and had it shipped to my current home in Michigan. I am extremely pleased with the coverstitch (and chainstitch) which is how I leave it set up near my Evolution. It also was wonderful as back-up when Evolution went in for servicing. I have clothing for my granddaughter and myself planned in 2024, and am determined to finish a Storm At Sea quilt for my son in 2024 also.

In 2023 I decided to start sewing again and found Namcy Zieman’s pattern sizing instructions. I immediately found her sewing books and purchased them.. This purchase led me to the Stitch It! As it was with Nancy Zieman and “Sewing With Nancy”, so it continues with “The Stitch it! Sisters”. These ladies are thankfully carrying on a great legacy and paying homage to a wonderful lady. As a new sewist, many years ago, I faithfully watched “Sewing With Nancy” and learned most of the sewing skills I still use today. Then when machine embroidery became available to the home sewist, I, again, learned skills for machine embroidery from “Sewing With Nancy”. We all miss her so, but glad Deanna, Denise and Dana are going forward but still remembering Nancy.

I cannot say enough great things about Nancy Zieman Productions. I love to watch her on CREATE TV (PBS) and they just do not do enough of her here in Virginia Beach VA. I know that I can get more info with her on my computer. I do that every week when I get a new email. I have been watching her when I first didn’t work outside the home, and she came on my PBS station.
I have been retired for 10 years this month and really thought I would get more sewing in than I have but “Life Goes On” and you never know what God will throw your way.
I believe that Nancy Zieman covers all the bases for sewing anything. Home Decor, quilts, clothing, embroidery and more. Just love her shows and her videos are so great even now that she has left us. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! Thank you for keeping her alive for all of us FANS.

Your store looks amazing. I only wish I lived closer to shop in what looks like the best sewing shop ever. I grew up watching Nancy on my local PBS station & was saddened when she passed. So glad your staff is carrying out her love of sewing. I know she’s looking down with great approval.

This summer I got to sew again with my granddaughter who won a prize in I Sew for Fun Kids 2019. It was so much fun to sew with her and her 7 year old sister. I also love to make the infinity scarves from Faux Fur and giving them as gifts. What a wonderful quick way to warm someone’s day in these cold winters.
About 28-30 years ago ( I’m guessing) I shopped at the very first Sewing with Nancy store; it is a fond memory.

2023 found me struggling to start or finish projects of all kinds. I’ve had several losses, including my step dad and also my best friend, on Christmas eve. My friend was my only Christian relationship that i had and my faith has been in Rocky ground for quite some time now. She was helping me look for joy again… from 1000 miles away. Starting the week before Christmas, I’ve started going to a church quilt group and joined craftsy. I hope to create and enjoy fellowship again in 2024. She wanted that for me.

After I retired in 2009, I think I watched every one of Nancy’s sewing shows. They were a favorite. I got my sewing confidence from her. She was quite a gal. I wish I could have met her. Please keep her memory and her store and the quilting going. I had two surgeries this year and each prevented me from sewing. Now in the process of moving to a smaller home. Can’t wait to get normal and sew again. Keep going in the new year.
