- Fray Block
- Eze-View Press Cloth

- Using a tape measure, measure waist, then cut wide elastic 2″ shorter that waist measurement.
- Cut Crepe Knit skirt rectangle 36″ long, by the width waist measurement plus 6″.

- Using pins, quarter-mark elastic and skirt fabric.
- Place elastic to skirt top, right sides together, aligning edges and matching quarter-markings. Pin.
Place pins parallel to cut edge–if you’ll be stitching with a serger.
- Stretch elastic to meet fabric, and secure with additional pins.
Set sewing machine for a “wobble-stitch”: Choose a slight zigzag (2.0-2.5 length and .5 width). On the outside, this stitch will give the appearance of a straight stitch, while providing a slight amount of stretch to the seam! Or, choose a 4-thread overlock serger stitch. Now’s the perfect time to use that serger!
- Stitch or serge seam with 1/4″ seam allowance, or use presser foot edge as a guide. Be sure to backstitch at seam beginning and ending.
- Insert a new Size 80/12 Jersey Needle into sewing machine, and stitch elastic to skirt top, stretching elastic as you sew.
- Place skirt right sides together and pin along side seam.
- Using 1/4″ seam allowance, stitch side seam with sewing machine or serger.
Insert stitched serger thread tail into eye of darning needle. Insert needle into stitched seam, threading tail back through stitched seam.
- Add a drop of Fray Block, and cut away excess thread tail.
- For exposed elastic at waist, skip the next step and move on to hemming.
- For hidden elastic at waist, fold elastic inside skirt with wrong sides together. Pin at side seam and at halfway marking (where a second side seam would usually be positioned).
- Topstitch along side seam, and halfway mark, securing elastic inside skirt.
- Shorten skirt if desired.
- Turn up and press 1″ lower hem with Eze-View Press Cloth and Clover’s Hot Ruler. Stitch using wobble stitch, blind hem stitch, or topstitch with Double Needle stitching!

My summer calendar is full of family birthdays, so first I’m make fun “vacation” shirts for my twin boys, then a Sallie Tomato purse for my sister and a niece will be thrilled with the quilt I just finished. Then get to make a baby quilt for a niece due in the fall and then better get busy on the quilt for my son’s wedding at year end!

This summer I plan to make a quilt from my mom’s clothes and a summer table runner or tablecloth for my living room coffee table.

I plan to make stretchy shorts with a padded bottom for bike riding. My shorts will now have an elastic waist like the one in your one-seam skirt tutorial! I could use the double needle to hem my pant legs.

I plan to make a dress for my granddaughters wedding which is in the fall. Need to get started on it so it will be done in time.

I plan to finish placements, table toppers, and make a quilt to donate for a fundraiser this Fall.

I will continue to try to find and organize all the fabric around the house — it is like going into a fabric store that carries only fabric that I like! Then I should make a lot of clothes using that fabric for the nowhere that I can go right now. When that vaccine finally arrives, I will be well dressed as I go wherever I want!

I am working on Santas and Christmas stockings from a red and white cutter quilt I bought last year.

Planning to finish my Random scrappy quilt using my serger. Also I would love to make this one seam skirt and some leggings. I need to get to know my serger better and all the things it can do. Oh , my sewing studio desperately needs organization once again.

Hi, I can’t wait to make this skirt! I’ve been making masks for months. I haven’t seen my sewing buddy in 3months! My granddaughter. She celebrated her 9th birthday Saturday. I spoke with her today. She said,” Nonnie, I want to be a clothes designer!”
This summer will be fun! Sewing with her again!

I would like to get a purse sewn this summer.

Summer sewing plans include making some skirts and some Christmas ornaments. The fabric for the skirts is a stretch knit so those needles would be handy!
