So sad to hear that Nancy passed. I pray she is at peace and without the pain and burden of cancer any longer. Like probably millions, Nancy was the most inspiring person I’ve ever “known” and she is the reason I sew and create. She inspired in so (sew) many ways, as an artist, a businesswoman and as a humanitarian. The creative world is a lot less bright today. 🙁 May God Bless and Keep you. 🙁

My heart hurts so much right now. I remember watching her as a child with my mother. Then when I became a mother and started sewing I began watching her show again. I don’t know what to say, I’m sorry for her family’s loss and the worlds loss of such a great person.
Dr Michael J Elinski
I am so saddened by the death of Nancy. I first learned about her in 2012, when I was teaching myself to sew and quilt, as a complete novice. Finding her show, Sewing with Nancy, played a major role in my learning this new skill, which was crucial in helping me redefine my life. No longer able to practice medicine due to HIV/AIDS, her inspiration and gift of teaching helped me fill a void in my life. Watching her DVDs and sensitive interviews, showed me a truly sensitive and empathic soul. She was a gift to us all and will be terribly missed. Fortunately, I have some of her videos that I can continue to watch and reread her autobiography, which was a deeply personal account of how Nancy turned her disabilities and challenges into motivation to create positive change in the world, largely through sewing and her charity organizations. She will be remembered my me forever as one of my most powerful mentors in learning to quilt.
Kathy
Nancy’s skill and grace have been a reassuring presence in my sewing life for decades. Her programs are so interesting and filled with possibilities. I will miss her and I send my deepest condolences to her loved ones. To be sure, she has left a wonderful legacy for future generations to enjoy.

Nancy was my weekly go-to show on PBS in the 80s and 90s – I videotaped and rewatched so many times. And learned so much from her as I taught myself to sew on my fancy (at the time) Pfaff sewing machine. I absorbed the catalogs and even the information they imparted about tools and tips. She was a boon to the field of sewing and I hope she knew how valuable her contributions were. RIP Nancy.
Carla Scruggs
While I was never able to meet Nancy in person, she taught me so much through her books and videos. A big part of that was learning to just try new things, and not worry if they didn’t turn out quite right. It’s all a learning process, after all. So much of Nancy is in my home!
We will miss her. Thanks for sharing her with all of us.

Jeanne Jabour
I am so saddened by this news. Nancy was my first “How to Sew” tv show and I was hooked after a few seconds! She taught me so much about techniques and new and innovative ways to create with my sewing machine. She made me feel creative and confident enough to tackle projects well beyond my sewing experience. And, she never once showed she was in a life threatening battle with cancer, I had no idea. How she was able to so generously share her her vast sewing knowledge and experience through her shows and publications during a time when she was fighting a terminal illness and the debilitating effects of treatment is beyond comprehension! The fortitude, determination, and strength of character it must have taken every day to do her show is humbling and inspiring. I will always cherish every lesson I learned from Nancy, and will do my best to follow her example of how to conduct the remainder of my years. My sincerest condolences to her family, her staff, and her friends. She was quite a woman!
Jessie Fyfe

I was sad to hear the news of Nancy’s passing this morning. I have followed her off and on for as long as I could get her show on my local TV. Am so glad we have other avenues to see her show as our local TV station took that particular channel off the air last year. She was a great inspiration to me. I know that I will think of her often, especially every time I sew, which is often – thanks to all the wonderful skills I learned watching her programs. She will be greatly missed.

I am so saddened by this news. Nancy was indeed a Wisconsin treasure. Her love of sewing and her way of taking difficult techniques and teaching them in a way anyone could do is a priceless treasure to me. I started watching Nancy 25 years ago as a new bride needing to sew for necessity because we did not have a lot of money. Her books are my dearest treasures. My deepest sympathies to her famiy.
Dee
I am older than Nancy, and I’ve been sewing evrything since I was a small child. I didn’t find her show until 10 years ago. And yet she taught me so many skills. She was everything about sewing. Although I never knew her, I will miss her terribly as a sewer. But there was more to Nancy. Her warm personality radiated through the camera. She did programs about projects I had no interest in, but I watched every one, just to hear her voice, her laugh, her quiet confidence. Like Bob Ross, she came through the TV set and soothed us. Soar on, Nancy. You done good.

My heart aches with the news of Nancy’s passing this morning. I have enjoyed and learned so much from watching Nancy on the Sewing With Nancy programs throughout the years. She was truly a exceptional woman and will be greatly missed by many. RIP Nancy.
Margaret Winters
Although expected, we are never ready to lose someone. I never met her, but like others, felt like she was our personal sewing instructor, making the art and creativity through sewing available to many thousands of people. The warmth and kindness of her personality came through loud and clear. I will miss her very much. My sincerest condolences to her family and friends, who must continue on without her. I am grateful that she has left us with such a wealth of information from her books, TV programs, and leaflets. Rest in peace, Nancy, thank you for all you have done to help others.
Virginia Shirey
I have been a fan of Nancy’s forever! I have tapes and CDs and DVDS of so many of her programs. I even have one of her books that she autographed when she was at a sewing show in Pittsburgh, PA, near where I live. I identified with her background–growing up on a farm, learning to sew from my mother and in 4-H. My deep sadness really started when I read Nancy’s note last summer to all her friends. Such a special person! Her memories will be cherished, especially her acknowledgement of her faith that would see her through. Special blessings to all of her own family at this difficult time!
Shelia Harasimowicz
I’m so sorry to hear of Nancy’s death. She was a classy lady. She taught us all so much–even through facing her death with grace and thanks. My God be with her family at this difficult time.
Brenda Parker

My mother was a huge fan of Nancy and her shows, books, notions, etc. and I remember watching a little with her back in the 80s – it was how I learned about sergers/overlock machines. After Mom died 8 years ago, I found many of Nancy’s notions among her things, and once I started sewing I put many of them to use – and set aside others for when I’m ready to start quilting. Nancy’s videos and tutorials have helped and inspired me so much, and I am so sad to hear that she is gone, though I am glad her pain is over. I am sure Mom will see you on the other side, Nancy, and have a warm smile for you and plenty of questions. <3

My heart is heavy with sadness this morning from hearing the news of the passing of Nancy Zieman. She’s been an inspiration to me, my family and no doubt countless tens of thousands, possibly millions across this country and the world sharing her techniques with sewing and quilting. We set our calendars to her programming on PBS and waited with excitement and anticipation for her show every weekend. She will be forever missed. My deepest condolences to her family.
Sandi Shorter
Godspeed Nancy. You fought the good fight and left a legacy that can’t be beat. Thank you for you did for all of us.

I’ll always remember Nancy as a little oasis of sanity during the toddler preschool raising years. Nap time was Nancy time. A good woman who will be remembered for a long long time. We are grateful for the time she gave all of us.

No other sewing celebrity has touched any of us the way that Nancy has. My thoughts and prayers go to Nancy’s friends and family on this sad day, I am so sorry for your loss.

Marilyn Barksdale
Heartbroken beyond words. A part of Nancy will always live within all of us who loved, respected, admired and were inspired not only by what she taught us about sewing but how to live a grace-filled life and how to prosper in the face of adversity. Flights of angels have guided her to her eternal rest, but our world will be dimmer for it.
Deb Brod
I felt like Nancy and I kind of “grew up together” through her TV show. We were about the same age as were our two boys when I began watching her in 1983. What a delight and a special treat she was each day for me as I anxiously sat down to watch her in the evening. I have so many of her VHS series, books, patterns…..she has been an amazing part of my life. Peaceful rest, sweet lady, and much love to your family. Your lessons will live on as I teach my grand daughter to sew.
Maria Hrabovsky
I am so very sorry and so deeply saddened to learn of Nancy’s passing! I learned so much from her through her TV series, “Sewing with Nancy” where, besides sewing, she also guided me along on my early learning path to quilting. We will not forget her nor her contributions! She will live on in my memories and always in my appreciation for all she taught and inspired. My deepest sympathy and condolences to her family!

I am so sorry to read of Nancy’s passing. She was a great teacher, and an inspiration of how to live a good life, giving and sharing her talents so generously. I’ve learned so much from her as a sewing instructor, and as a volunteer, without ever meeting her personally. I feel as if I’ve lost a dear friend, as do so many others. Thanks to her family and friends for sharing her with all of us.
Carolyn Duke
I am saddened beyond words! I will always remember the first time I met her…it was at PFAFF convention in Vegas and she was greeting everyone and handing out Hershey chocolate kisses! You will be missed so much Nancy Z.
Debby Gravunder
I first started watch Sewing with Nancy as a new wife in 1984. I was a military wife and we were stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. We only got 4 channels of TV and one was PBS. It was watching Sewing with Nancy that I sewed a stroller bag for my soon-to-come son. It is now serving it’s purpose for my grandchildren thirty two years later. While I will miss Nancy, I know that her sewing tutorials will live on in the minds of all of us “old-timers” and first-timers with the videos on PBS.
Prayers to her family, friends and colleagues. I pray for your strength and her humor to remind you of the spirit she passes down to you.
Oh Nancy, keep teaching and learning from all the quilters and seamstresses who have gone before you.
Ariana
I am so sad to hear that Nancy passed today. My grandfather died from cancer and I know how painful it is for family and friends to see your loved one suffer. May her soul be at peace and prayers and love for her family. She was a force in the sewing world and an inspiration for so many of us. She paved the way for sewing teachers online. She will never be forgotten.
Donna Alvarado Ortiz
My heart was filled with sadness as I read about Nancy’s passing. She was such a beautiful person and an inspiration to so many. I loved watching her show and I remember learning so much from her. I know she leaves a big hole in her family but she touched so many of her viewers like me. Her family and those closest to her are in my thoughts and prayers.
Peggy Finch
I am so grateful to have known Nancy through her “Sewing with Nancy” program on PBS. Her lessons improved my sewing skills in many ways. I am especially thankful to her for introducing me to “Little Dresses for Africa” in 2010. I have been sewing for that project from time to time since then. Her catalog has enabled me acquire sewing tools I’d never heard of and ones that would have been difficult for me to get in rural northwest Tennessee. Thank you, Nancy! May your sewing legacy live on through youtube and other media. My deepest condolences to her family and friends.
Ruth Petty
Nancy was a very talented and inspirational. I send my condolences to her family and friends, also a big Thank You to all that helped and allowed her to share her knowledge in teaching. As I read her post she is at peace and no longer in pain. Prayers for all during this time.
Cris Soluna
I grew up watching Nancy on PBS. My mom wasn’t particularly talented in sewing or crafting, but Nancy caught my attention. And I loved all the notions. As I got older and began to sew on my own, I remembered Nancy and her Notions show. It always brought a smile to my face. I think the world is a slightly duller place without Nancy’s smile and presence. I send my deepest condolences to her family. May her memory forever be a blessing.
Lois
As a long time admirer of this lady and what she has accomplished and the lives she bettered for her love of sewing, I along with her millions of fans will miss her. God speed and bless her. Prayers and condolences for her loved ones.

Nancy was a wonderful person and a great teacher. She was the one who taught me everything I now know regarding sewing and quilting! I always wanted to learn but never had anyone to teach me until I found the Sewing with Nancy program on TV. I feel so empty now that she’s gone but her memory and her teaching will live on forever as we all pass her knowledge on to the next generations. May God bless and comfort her family with the thought that she will live on in all whoever met or learned from her. RIP Nancy.

Pauline Mang
My sincere condolences to Nancy’s family. After hearing of the recurrence of her illness, she was much in my thoughts. Nancy embodied enduring values in an unvirtuous time. She was modest though very accomplished. She was humble though thoroughly celebrated. She was a patient, thorough teacher and a kind mentor. And she showed us how we could use our talents, undeveloped though they may be, to complete simple, practical projects to help others. To me, she was the embodiment of the strength and substance of generations of women who did a lot with a little, She took the home arts to a new level and kept knowledge alive. I am so sorry for her suffering. She will be greatly missed.
Sylvia Gould
So sorry to hear this news. Prayers to her family and may she Rest In Peace. Thankful to Nancy for sharing her sewing gifts and talents with others so that we may learn and be inspired as well. She will be missed.
Shirley A Rash
So very sad. She has been an inspiration to sewers for many years. When you think of notions, you always think of Nancy’s Notions and of Nancy. I couldn’t see her show when it was first being showed to the public because I was either in California and now Nevada, but I’ve watched some of them on the Internet. She was always a great hostess for the show.
She will be terribly missed.
Her family should be very proud of her and all her talents and hope they celebrate her life.
Judi Cabanaw
So sorry to hear this, I am saddened that she has passed. Her life was so inspiring,,,her suffering is now over.

Please know how sadden I am to hear of her passing. She was awesome in teaching ability, intelligence & practical everyday sewing. I have been with her for most of 30 years, & I still use some of newsletters. I was delighted with her TV show, but most of all she inspired me with her disability, as I have one from polio. I know she is an Angel in Heaven. You have my deepest sympathy.

Nancy was not only a great inspiration to us sewers and quilters, but she was also a shining witness for her faith. I have her family in my prayers.
Nancy Rymer
I always felt a real affinity with Nancy. Not only because we have the same name, but because I too love to sew and I had Bell’s Palsy twice when I was a teenager. Luckily, I was left with only a small impairment that probably only I can see. So when I found her show on PBS for the first time, I was hooked. She lives in our memories forever. Thanks Nancy! You will be missed.
Laura Jean
My sincerest condolences to the Zieman family, and all of Nancy’s friends. All these years I’ve felt as though Nancy were my friend. Always there to teach me something new, help me when I got stuck, and encouraging me to keep creating. When I heard the news, I looked over to my sewing cabinet filled with my Nancy Zieman books, dvds, patterns, sewing tools and many projects waiting for completion I felt as though Nancy is still with me. I don’t know how to thank her enough for teaching me to sew and thus allowing me to create such beautiful things, other than to keep on sewing. So, thank you my dear friend, and bye for now.
Jill Blankenship

Nancy taught me most of what I know. I loved her “can do” style, and easy techniques, and so looked forward to every episode. It’s wonderful that the invention of the internet allowed me to share her work from England. I can’t easily make a donation, but Nancy did inspire me to take on the challenge of “Quilt to Give” so I do so every year, and will continue the tradition in her honour. The love goes on………..Thanks Nancy.
Celeste Vardaman
My condolences to Nancy’s family. She was such a good teacher, always inspiring those of us who sew to become more accomplished. Sad as I am to hear this news, Nancy lives on through, not just through her family, but her books and videos and through all the thousands of people she taught. So thankful I knew her (though we have not met other than at shows) for kind and generous people like Nancy influence the world for the better.
Becky
I did not know Nancy personally but I did know her as a sewing enthusiast and educator. I had taken up sewing after getting married and becoming a mother. I did not know anyone that shared my interest until the day I found Sewing with Nancy on the tv. Now I knew I had a friend and over the years have learned so much from her. The year the Quilt Expo came to Madison I knew I had to attend it. It was my first major Quilt show I had ever went to. Thank you Nancy for giving me a passion for all things sewing. You will never know how much you have meant to me.
Sadie Casey
My deepest sympathy to all the Zieman family of Nancy’s…..she will be greatly missed by us all and especially you, her own family. She loved life and doing all that she did in her career, that was plain to see, how enthused she was for creating & helping her viewers to learn. I myself, want to that you ALL —her family….for SHARING your wife, mother, and grandmother with us all these years.
She had a strong faith, which she let be known to us in her final letter to her ‘viewer family’, I was so happy to see that. May it be a comfort to your hearts to know that the Good Lord has now made a ‘perfect Nancy’, with absolutely NO problems anymore of any kind! She’s feeling the best she’s ever felt in life and I’m sure that God has given her a ‘special task’ for Him in heaven, whether it being singing Praises, mending angel’s wings, or creating new wings and halos—she’s still keeping busy.
May God give each of you family members the peace and comfort you need in your days ahead. May He put a song in your heart and a smile on your face with a happy memory, when you wish for ‘one more time’.
Michael M.
While helping with the fundraising team for both WPT’s Quilt Expo and SWN, I always felt like a colleague with Nancy. Her respect, grace, good humor and authentic humility led the way for a team effort on any work project. With as much fame as she rightly developed in her long career, she still had such a tender way of making all of us around her feel as though we belonged — that our input and our efforts mattered to her. To Nancy’s family and working family I send my deepest and heartfelt condolences. To me Nancy was my “sewing guru”. I have all her books and the booklets which accompanied her programs. She was so special to me even though I had never met her personally I felt I knew her and she was my greatest teacher. Visiting “Nancy Land” has been on my bucket list for many years but it will not be the same without her in our world. She will never be forgotten; she offered so much to so many. Gone now but never forgotten.
Sue

Rest in Peace. Your spirit is with us.

Nancy was a huge source of my inspiration in my sewing; she gave me the confidence to try things I hadn’t thought I could do, she inspired me to think about charity and inspired me to sew for those less fortunate, and generally taught me a lot of the skills I possess today, after sewing for 53 years! A truly beautiful soul! May she rest in peace. My sincerest condolences to her family; you are in my prayers.

Watched Nancy’s program from the beginning and ordered products from her catalog from the start. Was always appreciative of the creativity and hints she inspired. Her mail order business allowed me (a woman from a small rural town) to purchase and use products delivered to my home. When she started there were few sources for these items. She will be greatly missed!

Family and Friends of Miss Nancy – I am so sorry for your loss. I have personally watched sewing with Nancy for several years. I am always a little miffed when pbs takes time out to do their fundraiser, but I know if they don’t raise money, I won’t be seeing sewing with Nancy every Saturday morning and afternoon. I have learned soooooo much from her and taken some of her classes. What a joy to meet her in person. She projected such grace and so very warm. I’m sure you will miss her terribly, but rejoice in the fact she has secured the future of quilting, because I’m sure generations will continue to learn from her television programs. Blessings!

“There is a land of the living and a land of the dead and the bridge is love, the only survival, the only meaning …”(The bridge of San Luis Rey. New York: Albert & Charles Boni 1929, S. 139) – Dankeschön für viele tolle Videos – für die Lebenszeit die Nancy uns geschenkt hat – Die besten Wünsche für die Familie – in einer schweren Zeit – The more nicely and more fully the recollection, is the heavier the separation. But the gratitude transforms the torture of the recollection into a quiet joy. One carries the past beauty not like a sting, but how a precious present in himself. (Dietrich Bonhoeffer)

The news we have all been dreading since Nancy’s announcement. A bright light in our world has dimmed. Condolences to Nancy’s family, friends, and co-workers.

A terrible loss. I loved watching her show. She had a way of making what seemed a daunting, complicated task EASY. I am hopeful that the PBS station in this area will continue to run her shows. Sew on Nancy. Condolences.
Julie
Three generations of sewers in my family have learned from Nancy. It is with a very heavy heart that I pass along my condolences to her family for their loss. The sewing community has lost, what I consider, the Mother of sewing. She taught us like a mother or grandmother would, with patience and understanding of our inabilities. May your memories carry you thru this time with a smile.
Natalie

To Nancy’s family, I am so very sorry. I have a story to tell about her that shows what a down to earth person Nancy was. A number of years ago, I entered her garment contest two years in a row. When going to the High School one of the years for the fashion show, my friend and I encountered Nancy pulling up in her van. She was delivery an ironing board for the event. My friend asked if she could carry it for her and she said, “No just get the door.” Here she was running a big expo and dropping off the ironing board and carrying it herself when she had staff who could have done it for her. She was just that kind of person, genuine and real. I write this with tears in my eyes. Nancy gave us “sew” much and she will be dearly missed.
Char
May she rest in peace. I have learned so much from her programs that she felt like family. She will be missed.
Terri Stephen
She touched us all and was an inspiration to sewists everywhere. Thank you for upping our game. May you rest in God’s loving embrace.
Kay D
What amazing contributions you have made to the world of sewing! The world is a better place because of you and especially the creative world, thank you to you and your family, you will be dearly missed.
Lorraine Teel
What a bright light Nancy was. Her quiet smile and chuckle when she goofed always helped me through the many times I sewed garments inside out or cut before measuring twice. I liked to pretend Nancy was standing behind me encouraging me on. Her impact can never be measured. We lost a star today.
Barbara warner
Nancy was an icon in the sewing business.
It is a very sad day to loose someone so gifted.
We met in the late 70’s to work together promoting a book about fitting. I remember how enthusiastic she was and so very nice to work with. My heartfelt sympathies to her staff and
family.
Beth Leidy
I am saddened to learn of Nancy passing. She will be missed for her kind, generous nature in sharing her knowledge of sewing. She inspired and encouraged so many. I have watched her for most of her 30 years years on PBS.
May God help her family through the weeks ahead and may their memories bring some comfort.
Patti Whitebird
My condolences to Nancy’s family. I have been sewing since I was 12. I have been watching the show for a long time and have learned so much more about sewing. I had the honor of meeting Nancy, first at one of her workshops at the store, and secondly when I was able to go to the studio and watch an episode of the show being filmed. She came over and talked to me during a break and after the taping and was so friendly and down to earth, I felt as though I had known her all my life. Whenever I went to the store in Beaver Dam, I always hoped she would be lurking around some corner and I would run into her again. I think I will always feel her presence there, as the store is as warm and welcoming as Nancy was. RIP, Nancy. Thanks for all the sewing tips!
Wilma Geertgens

Although I never had the privilege of meeting Nancy in person, I feel as though I’ve lost a good friend today. I’ve always looked forward to her program on PBS to see what she had planned for us to learn. Her approach was always down-to-earth with lots of helpful tips. She was a true innovator in the world of quilting with her direct mail company, her shows, and her charitable spirit. She will be greatly missed in the quilting world. My sincere condolences to her family. Thanks for sharing her with us. God bless you.
Sheila Magnuson
I am so sad to learn of Nancy’s passing. What wonderful and amazing things she was able to accomplish in one lifetime! I have to share a personal story that is very dear to my heart. When my now 8 1/2 yo granddaughter learned that Nancy had bone cancer a few years ago she felt a need to contact Nancy and tell her she was thinking of her and wish her well. I went on the blog and sent the message, just the way I was told by granddaughter. Much to our surprise Nancy responded with such a lovely reply. It made a HUGE impression on my granddaughter and on me as well. Our world and its people are much improved by having had Nancy Zieman in it, something we should all strive for. Love to her family and close friends.
Jim stutson
Nancy will be missed. Being able to go to her sewing weekend in beaver dam has been a joy for my wife who closely associated with Nancy. May the wind ride up to greet you and your path be blessed with love from him.

My deepest condolences to Nancy’s family and associates. She was so inspirational for my sewing and I often used her information that she had for 4-H to use with 4-Hers. Whether it was to teach sewing techniques or when judging 4-H to point the 4-Hers to well written instructions and techniques.
She was an inspiration to many.
Paula
She was a gift.

I believe I have seen everyone of her shows. I received her catalogs since the beginning. I know I am telling my age. I have been to everyone of the Quilt Expos in Wisconsin. She truly was an inspiration. My family knows that when her show is on they are to be quiet and nothing else matters. The sewing world has lost a true icon. No one will fill her shoes. May she rest in peace.
Rebeca

My mother was a avid sewer/seamstress and she watched Nancy’s show all the time. I’ve watched her show since my retirement and am saddened by her passing. I was searching her You Tubes for “how to expand an elastic waistband” when I saw the announcement. She will be missed so much.

Nancy was amazing. My Grandmother passed away when I was 7, and never had a chance to teach me to sew. I started watching “Sewing with Nancy” every Saturday morning on PBS in my early 20’s and thanks to Nancy, amongst others, I learned to sew. I was born in 1982, and it’s hard to imagine her television career alone spanning my whole life. I just checked the guide for this weekend, it has Episode 3115: Sew for Fun. Saturday morning, 9:00 am, just like always. And, just like always, I’ll be sitting there with my cup of coffee, but this time with a box of tissues too. Good bye Nancy, Thank You from the bottom of my heart. You were an inspiration to sew many.
Linda Waldorf
Saturday morning will never be the same again for so many of us who watched Sewing with Nancy. I will miss seeing her. Thank you to Nancy’s family who so graciously shared her with all of us. She was loved by so many of us.
Linda
As a newlywed in 1982, Nancy was my go=to and inspiration for decorating my house with handmade love and a way to connect to my grandmother and great-grandmothers through quilting. Her programs were always a delight and I learned an incredible amount through them. Missing you so much already, Nancy!
Susan G

We knew this very sad day would come since the return of her cancer, but today we lost Nancy Zieman who was someone that many of us loved as if she was a part of our family. She was our dear friend, no matter that we had never met her before. We will never forget her and what she means to us. We are grateful for her life, and will be praying for her family and close friends.

Had it not been for Nancy, I would have never had the courage to cut or sew a piece of fabric, make a garment or quilt, or even buy a sewing machine. I only had the opportunity to meet her once in person, but she taught me every week on PBS how to create and execute my projects. A remarkable, one-of-a-kind woman who will be sorely missed.

Somehow I missed the comments from Nancy where she told us about her illnesses, so today’s announcement came with an extra hit. Our deepest condolences go to her family, friends, and co-workers at this time. It’s a day of mixed feelings — such sadness at her loss but such deep gratitude and thankfulness that we had the pleasure and honour of seeing her shows, reading her book, and (if we were very fortunate) meeting her in person. In my mind, she’s not really dead; she’s just moved on to another network and we’ll be seeing her again in the future.
Judith

There were several shows I watched but getting to see the person and the clothing they made on TV was really great. God needed her else where. She will be missed by many.

Part of the Heart of America has been ripped out today. So many hats Nancy wore. And she wore them all so well. She will be greatly be missed by those who knew and loved her. And by her viewing audience who saw her love for what she did and then shared it with us all. Thank You Nancy!
Lowella Murray
So sadden by the word of her passing. My thoughts and prayers to her family. She was a wonderful teacher and an inspiration to all sewers and quilters. She will be missed and heaven has gained an awesome lady.
Teresa Stevens
My heart is breaking. I thought, selfishly, that our Nancy would always be there to guide, inspire, and encourage us. What a lovely woman , teacher, and humanitarian. God speed, sweet Nancy. God speed.
Molly Hanson
I am an emotional mess as I type this but I am determined to say that Nancy changed my life in the best possible way. The day I got a phone call from her asking if I would like to be on her show felt like a dream. Meeting her was beyond compare. She left such an impression on me, so warm, so real, so humble. What a beautiful soul the world has lost today. My heart is truly broken. To her family and close friends and employees, many of whom I was lucky to work with in my short time there all I can say is I am so sorry for all of our loss… so very sorry.
Deborah Hersko
When I lived in Idaho, we were so far from anything, and Nancy became my sewing buddy. I taped all of her shows and basically had her show running all during the day while I worked on projects. I feel as if I lost a dear friend and my heart breaks. Into the arms of God Nancy, you will be truly missed.
Shelley
This is very sad news. Even though I had a grandmother and two aunts that sewed beautifully, I learned the most from Nancy. How I enjoyed my PBS time with her-like company with a friend. So much she taught has and will stay with me. A beautiful light has been extinguished but I am grateful for her life. She is missed!
Susan Child
Rest in peace Nancy – you will continue to be an inspiration to millions. My condolences to your family. You will be missed.

Long before YouTube, there was Nancy. The friendly person on the other side of the screen that would sit with me and encourage me to sew. As she came into my living room each week, she inspired me to do something I would never have the courage to do on my own – create beautiful things, in an easy to follow, step by step fashion. As a young wife, she was in 4 years into her PBS program & I was alone in Michigan (military spouse). I followed her programs throughout my many moves around the world and still continue to create beautiful things – now as a grandma (who DVR’s her programs so I can sew along). I had the privilege of meeting her when I took my then 12 year old daughter out of school for a spontaneous “chick trip” to Beaver Dam, WI for her sewing week. It was a trip that we will never forget. My daughter took classes & I bought her very own sewing machine – a Nancy’s Discovery, which we still use today. It was a moment in time that bonded us. I feel like I lost a friend even though we only met in person once. To the Zieman family – your loved one made an incredible impact on this world & she will live on in my heart and creativity. Love to you. I am praying for your comfort.

I watched on tv, bought Nancy’s books, fabric, supplies, embroidery software. While you are now watching all of us from a much better place, you will always be with me till my last breath. Then help my daughter and her daughters with their projects. You were the best and no one can fill your shoes! Know your family knows that too. To the family I am so sorry for your loss. I will miss her terribly and her new ideas and instruction. Rest In Peace Nancy. Bye.

I had the pleasure of meeting Nancy when she spoke at s yes in Louisville. She was educational, witty and charming. she showed her class by going to each table and speaking to each attendee as if they were the only one there. She will e missed by many

As much as we all loved Nancy and felt she was part of our family, how truly sad this must be for her sweet family to have her go away. God has truly blessed them to have Nancy as their wife and mother. She has guided them as she has her fans through the years, and my guess is that they learned as much from Nancy as we all did. God bless and help them to get through this sad time.
Renee
I’m so heartbroken to hear of Nancy’s passing. I’ve been a fan since the beginning of her career. She was instrumental in so much of my own sewing career when I was younger. My heart goes out to her family and friends during this difficult time.
Nanc
Thank you for your passion and skills you shared with the world. Their are no words that adequately convey to your family how much we loved you. You came in to our homes for thirty minutes each week. We looked forward to our weekly visits, we learned and sometimes had a laugh. You were our mentor and friend. We are grieving.
Cynthia
A true inspiration to generations of sewers who had no cable TV but always had PBS. She will be missed by all.

My life is but a weaving between my Lord and me.
I cannot choose the colors, He weaves so steadily.
Oft times He weaveth sorrow and I in foolish pride,
Forget He sees the upper, and I the underside.
Not till the loom is silent and the shuttles cease to fly,
Will God roll back the canvas and explain the reason why.
The dark threads are as needful in the Weaver’s skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver in the pattern He has planned. – B.M. Franklin-
Sincere sympathy to Nancy’s family and friends. I was honored to meet her at a fundraising show for WPT and at the quilt expo.

I am not sure exactly what heaven will be like, but I know that when we die and it comes time for God to judge us, He will not ask, “How many good things have you done in your life?” Rather He will ask, “How much love did you put into what you did?”
Nancy, God will judge you well. Your love was always obvious. Yours, was a life well lived.
Elizabeth H
A classy lady. She taught me so much. Will be missed! Bless her family and close friends.

Dear Family and Friends of Nancy Zieman,
Although I did not know her personally, I admired her creativity, her teaching techniques, her willingness to investigate and share techniques with her customers/viewers — always trying something new to keep her audience up to date in the sewing world.
I was tremendously impressed how she created so many interesting “Sewing with Nancy” shows. Even though I didn’t always sew the items selected for the topic, I set aside time every week so I could watch her because she always had some tip or shortcut.
She was always thinking, and just so creative.
I also appreciate her willingness to share her spirituality with the audience by bringing guests to Nancy’s Corner and offering the audience a way to participate in so many charitable projects.
Her courage to continue her show during her illness, and your support to help her just speak to me of what a remarkable woman she must have been.
I truly am deeply saddened to hear of her passing. I thought of her last week.
Sincerely,
Marge Welter

Nancy was an inspiration to me and to my students in sewing classes while I was teaching (Family and Consumer Sciences).
With the technology today I was able to use the videos that I ordered plus the materials that the students were able to view and make some decisions on their own. Thank you for the easy way to encourage many to sew.
My prayers and best of everything to the family and friends.
Many weeks she felt like family to me also. God give you peace in your days, weeks, and years ahead.
Yvonne J-H

She was always professional, always a lady, a great teacher who actually taught, not seeking to sell her products during a class. She had a huge impact on the creative & sewing community and will be sadly missed. She inspired our quilt group to make hundreds of dresses for Africa.

My eyes have been filled with tears all day upon learning of Nancy’s passing. How fortunate we were to have Nancy in our lives. How fortunate we always will be to have her huge legacy of documented teaching materials. The name Nancy Zieman will always carry great meaning, and especially to those of us who share her passion for creating, stitching and sharing. Regardless, her earthly presence will be greatly missed.

Oh my gosh, I owe Nancy so much! After years and years of my sewing machine collecting dust Nancy inspired me to start sewing again. All the fancy dresses and fun clothes I’ve sewed for my granddaughters, and now my great granddaughter, can be directly attributed to Nancy’s enthusiasm and expert guidance. And she continues to inspire! I’m even quilting! Nancy is the best sewing buddy I could ever have. I will miss you, Nancy, and think of you every time I sit down at my machine.
Karen L.

Today I learned of Nancy’s passing. I feel as if I lost a family member and in some ways, she WAS part of my family, even though we never met in person. My mom used to work with me in my sewing business, and every Tuesday at 1 pm, we would stop what we were working on and go have our lunch while watching Sewing with Nancy on PBS. Every episode, there was some little trick, tip or technique that would resonate with me. Later as I expanded my business into a retail shop, we had all the Sewing with Nacy videos for sale. She was a big part of my early business and I feel I owe a debt of gratitude for her generous spirit and willingness to teach others how to improve their sewing.

Never before have I shed tears at the passing of a TV personality. Thank you Nancy. God bless your family, friends and many followers as they heal from your passing.

I first met Nancy in the late Seventies or early Eighties when she came to Holland, Michigan to speak. I was a young, new Home Economics Teacher and was so inspired by her enthusiasm and knowledge. I continued to watch her on PBS and learned many new techniques from her through the years. I am sure that the sewing classes that I taught were much better because of her inspiration and teaching. May God bless her family as they remember her.
Cindy S.

The world has lost a beautiful, talented, careing lady, but Heaven has gained another Angel. I will miss my greatest teacher. Rest in Peace Nancy.
Elaine Black
I have watched Sewing With Nancy pretty much ever since I had access to PBS. Her books were the first ones I bought after buying my first sewing machine. I have several of her shows recorded, especially for quilting. She always explained and demonstrated so well that I felt confident I could make the same item.
My perception of Nancy as a kind, thoughtful, Christian lady was solidified after reading Seams Unlikely. I learned she was also a very brave and strong person who didn’t let anything keep her down.
I felt like she was my next door neighbor who I could sit down with and have a cup of coffee and some of her freshly baked zucchini bread.
My deepest sympathy goes to Nancy’s husband, sons and their families. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Elaine Black

While we never met, I feel I have lost a best friend. Nancy has been a fixture in my home since 1985.
After reading her book, Seams Unlikely, I found we were living parallel lives from our ancestors coming from Norway and settling in southern Wisconsin, to leg casts from above the ankle to above the knee, and to not being allowed to attend UW Madison because of anti-war sentiments. I believe I took a class from her in the late 70’s as Nancy was the only person I saw teach what this teacher was teaching.
My heart and thoughts go out to her family. Nancy was a Super-Star in the sewing world. Now she is a Super-Star in the heavens.
Brenda
My condolences to Nancy’s family and friends. I have watched her show for many years. Not only did I learn a lot of sewing techniques and tips, but she introduced me to new sewing/quilting trends. I will miss her new shows, but am thankful for the hours of recorded shows that can be watched again, not only by current fans, but future viewers. What a wonderful legacy.
Tracey
I’m so very sad to hear of Nancy’s passing. I re-read Nancy’s farewell note tonight and I was again impressed by her quiet eloquence and dignity. Over the past couple of months I have been re-watching old videos and enjoying new ones and will continue to enjoy Nancy’s teachings.
My most sincere condolences to Nancy’s family and friends. She will be missed by many.
Cynda Davidson
My most sincere condolences to Nancy’s family and friends. She will be missed by many, especially me 🙁

So sad, can’t stop crying. I don’t have many friends, but I could always count on Nancy to share something new for me to sew on her t.v. programs. In fact, nothing ever fit right until she taught us how to measure yourself correctly. What I will remember the most is her smile, her time with her friend Mary, and her slapping her arm with her green pin wristlet.
She gave back so all her sewing friends could go forward.❤️
Linda
My thoughts and prayers to Nancy’s family and friends. I never met Nancy in person, but feel as though I’ve lost a very dear friend. Saturday mornings were always time for “Sewing With Nancy” and a cup of coffee. Bye for Now…….

I do not watch TV very much. However, my family does: football, baseball, hunting shows, sitcoms, etc. Having said this, everyone in my household knew that when Saturday morning arrived, they’d better clear out as I was watching Nancy. I shall truly miss her. She taught me so very much. So sad. Yet, she leaves a lasting legacy to so many. Thank you, Nancy.

How amazing a life, and a soul that has touched so many other lives so deeply that although she never personally met any of us we mourn as though we knew her as a dear friend – we never spoke but knew her to be kind and gentle, we never walked side by side but understood she was a person who could be trusted, we were not there when she died but by God’s grace we will all meet someday in Heaven.
Susan

I’m truly in shock, I lost a good friend today – one whom I never had the pleasure of meeting but a good friend nonetheless. To the Zieman Family – THANK YOU for sharing Nancy with all of us for so many years; rest assured none of us will forget such a lovely lady. Dear Nancy – you’ve earned a rest. Now it’s time for you to kick back and watch all of your “students” from high above; enjoy the “show”. We will continue to make mistakes when we sew & quilt but when we do we will reach for your books or rewind your videos and figure out what to do to fix the problem. You taught us so much; we appreciate the way you shared your talent with us and opened the vast world of those who sew for the benefit of others to us each week. We will miss you dear friend. Sincere condolences to all family, staff, crew and friends who worked with Nancy all these years. These hundreds of tributes, I hope, will bring you peace knowing that you and Nancy touched the lives of so many in such a loving, positive way. May God bless each and every one of you.
Kimberly Simmons
Rest in Peace Nancy, you were a true magical inspiration to the quilting world and will be forever missed. Heaven gained an angel today! My deepest sympathy to the Zieman family, may God wrap you all in his arms and bring you peace and comfort during this very difficult time.

I am so sorry for the loss of a such a wonderful and caring Lady. I got to meet Nancy at one of her lessons on pattern adjustment when she first started out. She was in International Falls, Mn in the spring of 1980 and I was so honored to get to talk to her. I have watched her show from the first show on PBS every Sat morning. I have learned so many things from her and I will cherish all the books I have. Thank You, Nancy, for sharing your talent with us and teaching us so many things.
All my prayers to her family, friends and staff.
Heidi Moegerle
Nancy has been a major influence on my life for the past 30 years. Of course I watched her show for new sewing tips and techniques, but I also watched it because of her grace and class . Her aplomb and simplicity was evident in every show, straight through to “I Sew for Fun,” the last episode she recorded. In that episode, which aired for the first time yesterday, we saw her pass the sewing needle on to her granddaughters. It is poignant that she lived to know that her final favorite episode had been aired; that there was no more to do; her job was done. The arc of her life was service to others and to God. Her example will shine through her work for many years to come and all will be better for it. I grieve for her family, who shared Nancy with her students and admirers for so long. My condolences go out to all who mourn her passing.
Micki MacCumbee
RIP Nancy, beautiful lady inside and outside…thank you for sharing your enthusiasm for sewing…Godspeed and Bless your family.

Nancy.. a sewing icon, thank you so much for all of the years you put into reaching out showing us how fun and gratifying sewing can be, how to take something like a piece of fabric and transform it into a tangible, beautiful item…
My heart is with the Zieman family; I am genuinely sorry for your loss… I want to think that she is starting to inspire a whole new group of people to her love of sewing.. and she will keep you safe and loved while watching over.
Kathy Stockton-Behnke
This is the time that we have dreaded, the time our friend Nancy had died. For so many years she was a kind spirit that taught us so much about all types of sewing. More than that she was happy to share her celebrity to promote the good works of everyday people. It always seemed as if when the cameras were off there would be lots of laughter and joy. She has always been and example of courage and dignity; a very talented, caring, and extraordinary “regular” person. Now that she is gone we must carry on her legacy of loving, helping, and advocating for others. Nancy, we will miss you and always remember your dear presence in our lives.

Nancy Zieman has been a part of my life since the beginning broadcasts on PBS. She not only encouraged myself but many others to use sewing, quilting and other artistic medias in many creative ways. I truly will miss her and her lovely smile. All of us have been blessed to have her in our lives via the many different media. Prayers to all of her family and many friends.

So sorry to hear that cancer continues to take the lives of so many. I cry for her, my daughter, and everyone suffering because of this indiscrimate killer.
Carolyn Rector
She truly was an inspiration to so many of us as she blessed our homes with her sewing lessons and tips. It is with great sadness as I learn of her passing. My prayers are with her family at this time of loss. God bless you.
Raylene
I am so saddened by the passing of Nancy. I still have many, many episodes of her on VHS tapes. It is because of her that I have become a better sew-er. Learned so much from her shows. May she Rest In Peace.
Patti
I, like many others, have watched Nancy for years. I own some of her videos and many of her books. I treasure all of them. Nancy inspired me to try new things. I was watching her show 10-15 years ago. It was about machine embroidery. My husband walked through and asked if I was interested in embroidery. Foolish me, I said no! 🙂 I now own three embroidery machines. She taught and inspired many of us. We hear of ‘celebrities’ passing and are sad. Nancy was my ‘celebrity’ and my heart aches at the loss. RIP, Nancy! We will miss you!
Nancy Farrar
My deepest condolences to the Zieman family. Please know that you are in my heart and prayers. Nancy was a gift to so many people. She touched so many with her kindness. Hopefully knowing this will provide some comfort for you. Osteosarcoma is a horrible disease………I lost a son to this. Again, all of you are in my heart and prayers.
Eileen Jones
I regret that I never wrote Nancy personally to thank her for teaching me through Sewing With Nancy. I have been a fan for so many years, and have told many of my friends about her. I would not have the skill or desire to learn more about sewing if it hadn’t been for Nancy and the way she made things seem so easy to understand. She will be missed. I feel her loss now.
Joy
My deepest sympathy to Nancy’s family and work family. Nancy began her television career the same yaer I was married. I watched her faithfully and learned so many things that made me a better homemaker. I love that Nancy share so many opportunities that allowed the skills she taught to be used for charitable causes. Nancy will live on in many of our hearts. Prayers for all who loved her.
Kay Dette
Nancy shared alot of herself and her inspiration with all of us. Her book on how to custom fit clothing helped me make our first daughter’s wedding dress. And I also made our 2nd and 3rd daughter’s bridesmaid dresses. I couldn’t have done it without Nancy’s book.
Bonnie Levien
To Nancy’s family,
You are in my heart and my prayers following the news. Nancy’s was the first sewing show I watched because of a junior high Home Ec teacher who was very lax in teaching sewing. I learned so much from watching Nancy–even to this day.
Rest in peace, Nancy, and know you are loved and will be missed.
Barbara A
I am so sad to learn of Nancy’s passing and send sincere condolences to her family. Many will miss this dear woman who has blessed us with her gift of teaching and love of sewing. I have special memories of the Quilt Expo when my sisters and I met Nancy on the elevator. Several of her shows are waiting for me via DVR. I am going to miss her.
Prayers to her family.

I will miss her, I have follow her since she
came on the kbps tv. I have a sewing room because of her love of sewing. She was a big influence on many young women of our time. She will be missed by all women who knew her and enjoyed watching her shows. She will not be forgotten. My prayers are with her family and she was loved by many sewers. Rest in peace

This news is so heart breaking. Nancy has been a part of my sewing journey from the beginning. I will miss her so much. She was always such an example of grace, faith, and courage. May God bless her family and close friends and give you all peace. I know your heart is broken, too.
Josie
Although I momentarily only met Nancy twice at sewing events, Nancy was like as personal friend that taught me to sew via TV. She dedicated her life to teaching us how to love to sew as she did. I cried when I heard the news of her terminal illness. She had never looked sick on TV. Will always admire her courage, dedication, love and support for all her viewers. She is the reason I would jump out of bed to go watch her Sewing show. Will always remember her and be very grateful to her for teaching me a skill I am passing on to my kids and grand children. Praying for her and her family I am sure she loved so muc. We all loved her and will surely miss her. You certainly left your mark and have a warm spot in our hearts. God bless you eternally, Nancy.
Vicki
I am saddened to hear of Nancy’s passing. Like many people posting here, I learned so much from Sewing with Nancy, improving my clothing construction techniques. I loved the clothing patterns and still have every one I ever purchased. Thank you so much, Nancy, for enriching all our lives.
Sue Michaels
Goodbye our dearest Nancy. You are and always will be an inspiration, muse and champion of our industry and for women with an entrepreneurial spirit. I have had the privilege of taking many of your classes and seminars both Sewing with Nancy and through your partnership with Babylock. You are part of my courage to form my own business in the quilting world. Your wonderful sense of humor, warm open heart, humble mien and brilliant insights will inspire for generations to come. I will miss you deeply. Rest ye of weary body but let thy spirit soar.
Janice Brewer
I am so sad to hear of Nancy Zieman passing. I learned so much from her books and TV show. The sewing community has lost a very big star.

So shocked to hear of Nancy’s passing. My prayers and condolence are with the Zieman family for their loss. Nancy, besides my mom, helped me via public television and through some of her books to become a better seamstress along with making home decor. I loved how poised she was and so confident. I read her letter dated the early part of September and the scripture that she used is my favorite. God bless everyone who has been touched by this lady.

My condolences to the family and friends of Nancy. She has visited my home once a week since she started on PBS. My family knew that her program was my time. I met her only once — I was at a Sew Expo many years ago and went to her booth at the end of a busy day to see if I could get a one of her books that was autographed. To my surprise, Nancy was there looking totally exhausted, but gracious and willing to autograph a book for me. I am so very glad that I was able to thank her for helping me develop my sewing skills. She was a true blessing and she will be missed.
Ann from KY
I feel like I lost a friend today, even though I never got to personally meet Nancy Zieman. Prayers said for the family as they have to deal with this huge loss.
I watched Nancy on TV for years, and had a lot of her books. I have 6 children and actually was home full time with them so watching Nancy was something I looked forward to. I learned so much! I would often sew just 10-15 minutes a day for my family using the skills I learned from watching Nancy. She gave me sewing classes when I couldn’t afford them from TV. She helped challenge me to sew better through her show. It meant a lot to get to watch her on the show. It helped me when the many chores I had to do daily were getting to me, because I had this fun show to watch! Thanks much Nancy, and you will be missed.
Carolyn
Bye for now….

So very sad to hear of Nancy’s passing today. She was a wonderful person. I did not have the privilege of having met her but like others have said, I felt I knew her. She was so generous with her time and talent. Nancy came across the TV as a very caring and giving person. My condolences to her family and staff and her many sewing buddies. My prayers are with you in this sad time.

Sadden by the loss of Nancy. I was so excited when her program first started on tv. Looked forward to every Saturday to see what I could learn that my mama had not already taught me to sew for my daughter. My mama is in heaven and I would like to think her and Nancy will have a fine time talking about sewing
Jean Halvorson
Such a sad day. Watched her show every Saturday. Over the years I have learned a lot from her. Condolences to her family and friends. We have all lost a ray of sunshine in our lives today. R.I.P. Nancy.

My deepest sympathy to Nancy Zieman’s family & friends. I had the great pleasure to know Nancy freshman yr at UW -Stout, just being on the next dorm area. I had some sewing classes with her too. I have enjoyed her program for years & always get a smile remembering when we were just starting out at Stout. God grant her peace.

I recently started the Block of the Month Mystery Quilt 2017, and will continue “quilting with Nancy” as I complete it. Rest In Peace, Nancy.
Debbie Bobbitt
So many Saturday mornings I spent with you – watching SWN on my TV. The bookshelves in my sewing room contain many of your books, my favorite is your auto biography. I am thankful for all the tips and skills you taught me over the years. But the faith and the determination, the never giving in or giving up that I read about in your auto biography and in your good bye is what has touched me the deepest. I feel as if I lost a friend today and I look forward to seeing you in heaven. Rest in Gods peace until then my friend.
Sylvia
Saddened to hear this news. I read Nancy’s book a few years ago, never knew all the obstacles she had overcame. Made me appreciate her even more.
I saw her once at the quilt show in Houston several years ago.
My sincere condolences to her family. She will be missed.

With Deepest Symphony to the Zieman Family, Friends, and Colleagues. Thank you for letting us be in Nancy’s life.

Watching old episodes with Nancy will be like watching Robin Williams- you are home with a dear old friend, and then a wave of sadness will hit, as you realize that Earth doesn’t produce extraordinary people every day, and that a legend is gone. Nancy, you will forever be a teacher and inspiration, and I am so sorry cancer took you before your time.
Rhonda
I was very sad to hear this news. As many have said, I never met her but feel like I lost a friend and mentor today. Nancy inspired me to learn new techniques. I especially appreciated the shows that highlighted ways that sewing could be used to send comfort to those in need. I send my condolences to her family and will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

I am in such shock! I have been watching Nancy since she started appearing on PBS in Brooklyn, NY. I loved watching her ideas & methods that she easily taught us. I am grateful for all that she shared with us as sewers, crafters & quilters.
I feel like I just lost a really good friend; she will truly be missed. Blessings, prayers & condolences to the Zieman Family & Friends.
Gay Sommerfeld
What a sad day for the Zieman family, friends, coworkers and the sewing community today. My sincere sympathies to all. I have learned so much from Nancy on how to sew as well as how to share. A lovely, talented lady. She gave me the confidence to pass on sewing knowledge that I gained from her. RIP Nancy. You are missed.

So very sorry for the family. Last Saturday I was watched her show for the zillionith time and still learning with her dedication and humor. Thank you Nancy and thank you for taking the time to autograph one of your books at the Puyallup Quilt Expo many years ago.
Cindy
Dear Nancy, I only bought Babylock machines because you had them. This is what an impact you made on me. If you had it on your show, I wanted it. Even if I didn’t need it or use something, I knew someday I would…and I could maybe sew like you
Susan Kelley
What a big loss to her family, fans and the sewing industry. I have watched Nancy since before she had her own PBS show. She was a guest on another sewing show (Sue something, I think). I’ve had my “Breakfast with Nancy” faithfully since her first show. While my mom taught me to sew, Nancy taught me so many new techniques, tips and ideas that kept me creating into my now 70s. My sewing room is filled with her many publications. My Saturday mornings will never be the same.
Sue Saubert
Nancy was incredible in every way. She was so kind and respectful of everyone she worked with on her shows and very sincere in her quest to teach us all how to grow our sewing skills. I had the privilege of taking classes from her in Oregon and Washington and although I had shopped from her catalogs for years, it was so special to think of her as a friend.
Blessings to her family and may they realize how loved she was by women everywhere. She will always be in our hearts and she not only taught us sewing, quilting, etc., she taught us courage and renewed faith in God’s plan for our lives. God bless you Nancy.
kathleen holland
RIP Nancy…..no words can express how great the loss of your creativity, generosity, and all the years you blessed us with your time and knowledge. You have your wings…fly free into His waiting arms. We will miss you…but we will see u again someday.
Prayers and condolences to your family. We, your viewers, feel like we lost a family member too:( You were a kind and good woman and mentor.
One last time Nancy………Bye for now……
Jeri Stockman
Such sad news today. I began watching Nancy when she began and broadcast from her home. I was hooked. She was great and such a wonderful person. I had the honor of meeting her at a Paducah, KY quilt festival, Quilt Expo in Madison on several occassions. She was so warm and gracious. The tears are falling as I sent this to many who have left their comments. I own all Babylock products, if she used it I knew it would be good. While we lived in Wisconsin I went to many quilt expo’s, the shop in Beaver Dam and lessons there also.
My deepest heartfelt condolences to her family. She will be missed so very much, I’m happy she experienced being a Grandma. Our daughter passed away March 2015, all she asked of God was to live long enough to see grandchildren and He honored her request. When Nancy made her announcement on her show it devastated me and ny sewing friends, she will be remembered forever as a woman who led many sewers to 10/20/30 minutes to sew.
May she rest in peace and may her family find comfort and peace knowing she is with God in heaven. Thank you Nancy for more than 30+ years of your show, tips and books,
Prayers for the family and friends have gone up to God tonight.
Lynne Baltzer
My Saturday afternoons have been scheduled around Sewing With Nancy for as long as I can remember. The generations she influenced will remember. .until next time. As we carry sewing and the gifts sewing can give the world forward, Nancy’s influence will be there. Thank you for all the happy moments. Heartfelt thanks to her family for sharing her with us .

It is because of Nancy’s programs that I started quilting. Her easy to follow instructions helped me to become a bit obsessed with it. 🙂 Thanks Nancy for all of your great patterns and hints and shortcuts. You have made it much easier for me and for so many people to quilt.
Peace to you.

Sincere condolences to Nancy’s loved ones. A huge loss to the sewing world, may Nancy’s memories and tutorials always be inspiring to future seamstress.
Kathy
I, like so many others here, have always looked forward to the time I got to spend with Nancy each week. Because of her I was inspired to do things for others and the blessing she gave me from just watching her shows will hopefully just keep getting passed on as we do what she encouraged us all to do, pass along our sewing gift by helping others in some way. We are all blessed to have known her, even if only through T.V..
Brandy
Watching Nancy is how I got started sewing and quilting. I know that a lot of people who sew have moms and grandmothers who sew, however I Idid not. Nancy gave me the inspiration to buy a good sewing machine and teach myself. I have never looked back. I am so saddened to learn of her passing. Her rescources, books and tools are invaluable. May she Rest In Peace. ❤️

Sorry for her families loss. We will all miss her. Her life was a message for us all, to carry on… Gods blessings on your hearts.

I always looked forward to watching ‘Sewing with Nancy,’ not just because of what I might learn, but also because Nancy Zieman came to feel like a true friend.
Denise Pouliot
Prayers to Nancys family and friends. She was so inspirational and gentle. Her calming personality made me feel like I could accomplish anything. Her teaching skills were exceptional. I’ve been watching her tv episodes for over 40 years. She inspired me to create unique outfits for my children who have now turned 40. Now she is inspiring me to create home decor for them. I recently retired as a nurse and have taken on quilting which I never really had the time to do. So, of course, I turned to Nancy……and once again she was there for me and I had the luxury of watching her every morning at 6:00 a.m. Yes, I got up at 6:00 a.n., because
” Nancy” was on. She will be missed by so many people she has never met but has touched our lives in so many ways teaching her skills, patience, perseverance, and creativity. Her family was truely blessed to have her.
Phyllis Smith
I am saddened by the death of Nancy Zieman. I’m also glad that now she will be free of pain and in an good place. I have known Nancy through her tv show for over 40 years. I learned a lot about sewing. I got a chance to me her in person by taking her classes at the Seattle Sew and Stitchery Expo. I enjoyed her routines with Ms. Mulari at the Friday Night Event. Rest in peace Nancy. You will be missed.
Yvonne Blackmon
What a precious legacy that will continue to live on because you Nancy shared and gave of yourself unselfishly so others could learn and develop their talents and skills. You will be missed but you will live on through your granddaughters.
Martha
The first quilting book I ever bought was hers. And the doll clothes I made were from her book and her shows. She was sew inspiring and will be missed!
Tammy Roussell
I am so saddened to hear this news about the passing of Nancy Zieman. Nancy has brought so many beautiful, creative gifts to the sewing and quilting community – and while doing so – also sponsored and supported many non profits and community building organizations, as she did for Mitsy Kit with an interview last summer. Her heart was as much a legacy as her talent.
Nancy’s talents and presence on this earth will be surely missed – but Nancy’s retirement announcement gives us comfort in knowing that she is now at peace in her eternal home.
My condolences and prayers go out to her family and all her loved ones and friends.
Barbara Lyons
I am so saddened to hear of Nancy’s passing, yet I knew her to be a woman of faith. Her promotion to glory is bittersweet. Nancy and I started out in the early 1980s and I have loved every episode! I have learned SO MANY tricks and helpful hints that have made me a better seamstress. I’m thankful to have had her in my life. Nancy, you will be sorely missed!
Linda
I am so sad ….I learned so much from Nancy–and thinking about the show today, I remember a person of honor and dignity…An example of how we should all live–I loved seeing her love for her family and friends and how she loved to give back to the world…a great lady….

Very saddened by the news. I have so many fond memories of watching her on PBS since the mid-80’s. She touched many of us in ways that sewing of the heart is what I felt when I watched her. May she rest in peace & my condolences to her family & close friends during this time & always. GOD has received another angel!

I never met Nancy in person, but truly felt she was a friend. Once I discovered her program, many years ago, she changed my perspective about sewing and made me want to explore more new ways to create! She was inspiring and created an environment for learning that was exciting and creative. She will be missed by all who knew her personally as well as those of us who were inspired by her through her programs.
Gail
I had the extreme pleasure of attending a Nancy Zieman sewing retreat in Northwest Arkansas many years ago She was just as gracious in person as she was on TV. I have sewn since I was 5 so 50 plus years and I learned so much from her over the years. I am sorry at the loss for her family and the sewing world. Prayers to her family and friends.

So sorry to hear. Sending my deepest condolences to Nancy’s family, friends and her co-workers. Was inspired by all she did and her friendly smile. She will be missed. She leaves a legacy of kindness and knowledge behind her. Prayers to everyone she touched.
Sylvia Zwick
I am so saddened by Nancy’s passing. She has truly been an inspiration to me. I started watching her program in 2003 when I decided to take up sewing. Whenever she would demo some new technique or shortcut, she made it look easy enough that I felt that I could do it too. She made learning fun and I’ve learned a lot over these many years by watching her. I am so sorry for her family’s loss and pray that God will grant them peace and comfort until they are with her again. We love you and miss you Nancy.
Linda Bazemore
Nancy Zieman was a beautiful woman inside and out. My young grandson and I attended an event at B Sew Inn, and she was great. She even mentioned him, as he was the only male attending the event. My grandson made a quilt for himself at age 7, loved to use my embroidery machine, and now finds himself in college, where is is in his third year studying costume design. He just loves it. Thanks Nancy for encouraging a young boy. You never know what will happen. We will miss you, but know you are in Heaven sewing away and helping and encouraging others.
Regina Hobbs
I am so sorry to have to say good-bye to a wonderful, uplifting, positive person. I’ve watched her since she began her show. She inspired so many people and created a need to get back to sewing. My sincerest condolences and prayers to her family.
Livia Boggs

Yesterday, while driving my husband home from a medical treatment, I looked up at the sky to see a very beautiful and interesting pattern of clouds – some looked like very straight lines, other places had wavy lines going in another direction, and in between were softer clouds with curves. Didn’t realize what I was looking at until later when I found out that Nancy had left us – she was already organizing the fabrics (clouds) she was planning to use for her first quilt up in heaven. I’m sure it will her best one yet!
Weeks
In Quilt Market and Festival in Houston a few weeks ago we threw Nancy a virtual retirement celebration and passed out bags and bags of buttons that said #thankyounancyz on them. All day long for 10 days we heard stories of all of the ways in which Nancy encouraged quilters — professionals and hobbyists alike — and how beloved she was among her fans. I was lucky enough to know her as a friend and will deeply miss having her as one of my cheerleaders in life. Rest In Peace dear friend.
Mary
I am so sadden by the passing of Nancy I feel I have lost a dear friend. My prayers are with her family.

I never met Nancy, but have shopped with Nancy’s Notions for many years. I also recently read her autobiography. She was such an impressive person in so many ways. I have great respect and admiration for her – she accomplished so much despite physical problems. I gathered that she was a very spiritual person. I was shocked when I read her goodbye letter and am even more shocked that the end came so soon. I am very saddened to hear the news of her passing away. Condolences to her family and friends and prayers for God’s comfort and peace during this time of sorrow.

I was very saddened to hear that Nancy is no longer with us. She was an amazing woman who showed us all what courage, drive and ambition is.
I learned to sew by watching her videos then CD’s. Her books are legendary and will stand up with our high school classics reading list.
I send my deepest condolences to her family and work family. May she rest comfortably pain free and continue to inspire us to be the best we can be.
Bye for now.
A devoted fan always

I lost a friend yesterday. I never met her but she was in my home daily. She taught me to love sewing and that I was capable of making beautiful things with my hands. Her gentle teaching style was great. I could really tell she cared about her viewers and the many charities she had at the end of the show. My heart and prayers go out to Nancy’s family, staff, viewers and fans. You will be forever missed, thank you for coming into my home each day.

Tina Marie Lorusso
So sad to learn about this. For as long as I can remember I have watched Nancy’s shows and followed her blogs. She’s been a real inspiration. It always felt like she was talking with me personally, not just doing a show. She made so many things look so easy and made us feel like we could do anything. We’ve all lost a very special lady. Peace and prayers for Nancy and her family.
Laura B
Nancy’s calm confidence while explaining even complex techniques kept me watching over the years. I can’t begin to explain how much I learned from her. The sewing community, PBS and the world at large have lost an outstanding teacher, but she’s trained so many to follow in her footsteps that the legacy of Sewing With Nancy will live on for years. Rest in peace, Nancy and God bless her family.
Sheila Fredette
Can’t type for long, crying too much.

Oh my gosh! I had no idea she was sick. I tape her shows every week! I must have somehow missed the show that she announced she was retiring. I learned to sewing by watching her show all these years! My mom use to sew my cloths when I was very, very young until I reached a teenager then she just lost her patience for it. She never had to patience to sit down to teach me how. I really didn’t learn any skills in Home Economics in high school. If it hadn’t been for Nancy’s show I would never have learned & developed my passion for sewing. I owe what skills I have developed from her. I am going to miss her sooo verryyy much!! May prayers to her dear family for dear for their incredible lose and all the sacrifices they have made unselfishly with her pursuing her dream and sharing her talents with all of us!!
Diane
Nancy has been a hero to me for years. She was everything that is admirable. I watched her during one of the massive “sale days” in Beaver Dam. As other would have to leave their booths for lunch or restroom…who ran over to take their place? Nancy of course. Total grace and charm. I feel as thought I just lost a really good friend.
Sandy
So sorry to hear . . . be at peace now!

I am so saddened to hear of her passing. My prayers are with her family and friends who will miss her so much, but are happy in the knowledge she is now with her Savior in Heaven. I was fortunate enough to meet her after a presentation she gave several years back. I watched Sewing With Nancy for many years and learned so much from her and her guests. I will miss her.
Julie
She taught us techniques to sew blankets, clothing, art quilts and up-cycled projects. While doing this she gently reminded us to use the skills we learned to make a difference for others in our community. She taught us that achieving perfection in our sewing was a nice goal, but that we should not allow that to keep us from enjoying our craft. We were taught to take chances, try new things, and laugh at our mistakes. Most important we were taught love for sewing, and love for life, and our responsibility as citizens. I will never forget you Nancy. Your family has my deepest condolences. I share with all of you the joy she gave our lives.
Donna
This news makes me very sad. Nancy was a great example of grace and generosity as she shared her talents with her viewers. She made me feel like I could do anything she or her guests were demonstrating. She will be so missed. My condolences to her family and close friends.

I felt I’d lost a family member upon hearing the news of Nancy’s passing, yesterday. I’ve watched many of her shows since the 80’s and have many of her books and other things I’d ordered from her SWN store. I still use many of her techniques and tips – she was a fantastic teacher and she inspired my sewing , as she did for many I I had the thrill to meet her in the 90’s – such a gracious, giving and lovely person. My sincere condolences to her family, friends and coworkers at SWN. She will be missed very much.

Her passing is so hard to believe. She was so inspiring and inspired so many people. Watching her shows made me feel like she was sitting at my kitchen table and sharing her sewing knowledge with me. I feel so sorry for her husband, children and grandchildren. I know they had to have such courage to go thru this journey with her. Nancy Zieman had such grace and her love of sewing was always so apparent. I know she will be missed by all of us.

I just started sewing about 6 years ago and my mom “introduced” me to Nancy Zieman. I bumped into Nancy at the Fireside Theater in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin dinner theater last year and despite her physical health, was very friendly and gracious and I’m glad I had the opportunity to chat with her for the few moments we had. She was such an inspiration and I have so much to learn yet! Prayers to Nancy’s Family at this sad time.

I trust I will meet her in Heaven. For those of us who love fabric, sewing and quilting in all it’s forms, we will find each other again. Think of our beautiful craft rooms with every fabric and thread and tool imaginable. I’m sure the Lord has prepared a fabulous studio for Nancy since she loves these things so much and shared her gift with so many. She inspired me in so many ways. I was just thinking this morning that I should make so more little dresses for Africa. We will miss our dear Nancy so much. May God provide comfort to her family who will miss her most of all.
Ruchama Burrell
Like many others who have posted, I did not know Nancy personally, but she enriched my life immeasurably. She also increased my credit card balance over the years by introducing me to so many useful products, clever techniques, and lovely projects. The many “notions,” tools and books I have accumulated over the year I’ve “known” and loved Nancy will keep her memory sweet and fresh. And I will find a bittersweet pleasure in viewing her archived programs. May her family be comforted with all mourners of this world.

From far away (Belgium) I apreciated the work of Nancy Zieman. Loved her ! Deepest condolences to family. We will remember her !
Ann Coombs
My thoughts and prayers go out to Nancy’s family & friends. I feel like she was a dear friend, even though we never met. I visited her store a few years ago with my husband (who surprised me with the trip there for our vacation that year). Nancy wasn’t in the store at the time, but I later received a very kind letter from her thanking me for my visit & expressing her disappointment at not having been there to meet a fan. I was so touched that someone like her would have taken time out from her busy day to write to me. I still have the letter which I framed & placed in my sewing room. It is one of my most cherished possessions. I watched her show every week for so many years (I still do). I actually credit Nancy with my ability to sew. I’ve learned just about all I know about the craft from her. I have quite a few of her VHS tapes & DVD’s, so I will be able to ‘watch’ her for years to come. God sent us all an angel in her, and now He has called her home to be with Him. I know she is smiling down on all of us who loved her from her heavenly sewing studio. May God richly bless her family at this very sad time in their lives. And may they be comforted to know that they are not alone in their grief; we, her fans, grieve with them.
Lisa Griffith
So sad to here this news, many prayers to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

As a sewer, teacher, and business owner, I have purchased and sold many of Nancy’s products since she started selling them. I have patterns, videos, and books that she authored. My heart goes out to the family. I was unaware that she was ill. Just last week I watched one of her TV programs and took notes to do the project in the near future. She definitely left a mark on the sewing world. Nancy will be missed and fondly remembered.

What a huge hole Nancy leaves in so many ways. I have always been amazed at how much one can accomplish in a lifetime and Nancy surely has left her mark with her talent and kind spirit as seen on her show and how she shared her gifts. I, like many feel like I have lost a friend and fellow seamstress. Just seeing the pictures of the empty set makes my heart cry. I too have battled cancer twice and I pray peace for her family and close friends who will miss her each and every day. All my love and a heart full of thanks for all that Nancy has taught me through the years. Bye for now.
