Nancy Zieman's I Sew For Fun

After a brief pause, Team Nancy Zieman is honored to carry on Nancy Zieman’s dream by continuing to share her love of sewing with you—Nancy’s dedicated viewers and readers. It is our honor to introduce you to Nancy Zieman’s I Sew For Fun program. Nancy and the Nancy Zieman Team have worked nearly three years developing this brand new sewing experience for adults and youth.

Nancy Zieman I Sew For Fun TV ShowNancy sewed for fun with her granddaughters, Avery and Luella. Her guess is that there are youth in your life that will enjoy the sewing experience, too. Learn to take a lighthearted approach to introducing youth to sewing. Nancy disregards lots of rules and adds a big dose of fun. Watch this brand new one-part series, I Sew For Fun on Sewing With Nancy.

Nancy Zieman I Sew For Fun TV Show

In this new TV show, Nancy parallels introducing youth to the experience of sewing to the same way many of us initially work with kids in the kitchen—you work together as a team. Nancy began baking chocolate chip cookies with her granddaughters. She didn’t expect them to understand the difference between a teaspoon and a tablespoon, rather she let them enjoy the activity of measuring while she guided their little hands every step of the way. The chocolate chip cookie experience lead Nancy to think about introducing her grandaughters to sewing in the same manner.

Nancy Zieman I Sew For Fun TV Show

In this brand new one-part series, I Sew For Fun on Sewing With Nancy,  Nancy shares her modern approach to sewing with youth. Prepare to throw perfection out the window and just have fun. Watch Nancy and her granddaughters enjoying her team sewing-for-fun experience. Nancy shares tips for the big sewing partner, and numerous insights for involving a little sewing partner—all while making simple, easy to sew kid-friendly projects.

Nancy Zieman I Sew For Fun TV Show

In the I Sew For Fun book, that accompanies this program, Nancy shares her step-by-step directions for 20 super-easy sewing projects. Give a little partner a few project and fabric options. Then, let them choose their favorite project to complete, with your guidance! You’ll plant the seeds of love for sewing that blooms with each new project. Here’s a sneak peek at the One-Button Projects (super-easy projects) included in the book:

Watched the program with Nancy and the granddaughters this past weekend. Love the program that has been developed for teaching kids. I have three grandchildren myself and did shed a little tear watching Nancy with hers. I have many of her shows on DVD and hope that reruns will be shown in the future.

My dream is to pass down to my granddaughters the love of sewing! This would be a fantastic way to introduce an heirloom of knowledge. Something that unfortunately seems to be slipping away from the younger generation.

What a special treat to have ideas to teach our kids! Both my son and daughter enjoy sewing straight seams for pillow cases, for example. But to have other projects and tips, I can’t wait! My kids and I will enjoy this for sure!

What a great way to honor a woman that so selflessly gave to many, by sharing her love to create. Nancy’s legacy will keep her memory in the hearts of all those she touched with her generous heart. My 12 year old daughter wants to learn to sew so this will help me out to teach her. Thank you!

My mom taught me to sew at 5 and I taught my two boys to sew, made sure they each have sewing machines and now am looking forward to the time when I can work on sewing projects with my grandchildren. Nancy’s projects are so timely and colorful. Thank you for carrying on with Nancy’s love for teaching young ones to sew!

I am one of the lucky ones to have met Nancy years ago at a sewing convention for the ASG. She has been an inspiration to me for so long…pushing me to try things I would never have done without her. And when my husband passed away, I found myself binge watching her shows online, bringing comfort during one of the worst times of my life. And now she’s gone. We will all miss her, but I’m grateful she will continue to inspire Sewists for many more years to come. We love you Nancy.

Just getting started with 3 grandchildren 4 and under with another on the way. Thank you Nancy! I will miss you forever, but still have your guidance.

I was quite surprised when my granddaughter began asking to learn to sew last year at age 5. Her requests are very persistent so I have tried to share my knowledge of sewing with her when we visit; she lives in China. This series would be a great help . Nancy always explained things so well and made sewing look easy. I am so happy she got to make this series with her granddaughters, what a special legacy.

I have wanted to teach my great nieces how to sew but I never knew where to begin. This will be just what I needed! Nancy came into our homes on television every week and became one of our family. I have two nieces who I have introduced to sewing. One, much to my dismay, loves to “zoom” the pedal. The other, is very methodic and loves the outcome. It’s amazing the 2 extremes in personalities!!! I have helped them make pillowcases and felt multi layer flower pins. They loved it!
I am so glad you are continuing Nancy’s love and patience in her sewing community. Thank you.

So glad to see this book, I think this is truly her legacy, teaching the next generation to sew. I have had many friends tell me their kids watched some “Nancy Lady” sewing on tv (right after Thomas the Tank Engine) and wanted to know if they could learn to sew!

I’m so glad to hear you are continuing Nancy’s legacy by airing these segments. My grandson has just voiced an interest in sewing and I gave him the first sewing machine I purchased for myself, a Singer. These segments will be great for he and his Mother to work together to help him with this interest. I pick up fat quarters that I think will interest him whenever I’m out shopping.

I have been attending the Sewing and Stitchery Expo in Puyallup WA for many years and have been lucky to have met Nancy on many occasions. I am trying to open a school to teach kids to sew. It has been a passion of mine for awhile. I am unable to work anymore and finally have the time! This book would certainly help me achieve my goals. Thank you for carrying on Nancy’s legacy. She will be greatly missed.

I am grateful for what I learned watching Nancy through the years. I’ve been a Brownie Troupe Leader and this book would be perfect and so helpful to give these little people some direction. My Grandchildren are also starting to get interested as for each of their birthdays and holidays they get something that I have made. Even the Son-N-Law said something the other day about the wonderful things that I’ve given them. I want to continue to inspire everyone, just like Nancy has inspired so many of us. God Bless Nancy for her wonderful years of giving to all of us.

What a neat way to continue Nancy’s legacy. I get so excited whenever I meet a young person starting to sew. It seems to be almost a lost art anymore. This looks like a great way to get my own granddaughter interested in sewing and to continue my own passion. There will never be another Nancy but hopefully as a tribute to her, we can all introduce sewing in some way to future generations.

What a wonderful legacy Nancy has created. It was so heartwarming to watch this episode and see her teaching her granddaughters how to sew in a very hands on manor. I started watching Sewing With Nancy when my daughter was born in 1982. She taught me so much more than my high school sewing class. My daughter and son watched me having fun so they picked up the sewing bug. My son in law who is an architect sews too. I am looking forward to teaching my granddaughters and grandson to sew, ages 4 years, 5 months, and 3 months.

This looks like a great way to teach my grandkids to sew, including my oldest grandson who is a boy scout. My daughters never had time or desire to learn, but all appreciate the skills I have, so this will be a great way to carry on and pass along the craft. Thank you for continuing Nancy’s work. She always made the more difficult parts of sewing that I was not taught seem approachable.

This would be great I have 8 yr. old granddaughter who wants to learn and a 19yr old in collage who want to learn. This would be so helpful. I’ve been sewing since I was 9 and made my own clothes but Nancy showed me things I never knew. So it would be great to teach her style to my girls.

I love this idea. I wish my grandchildren were older and closer to me so I could start them with sewing. None of my children want anything to do with sewing, so I am hoping it just skips a generation and hooks on to the next! Seems to be working that way for past generations in my family.

    November 23, 2017

It’s so nice to see Nancy sharing her passion with her granddaughters in a fun way. When my daughters were toddlers, my 16 year old brother sewed them robes from bath towels. So let’s not forget to teach the boys, too. It’s wonderful that Nancy’s love for sewing lives on.

Nancy will be missed, I enjoyed watching her shows daily (didn’t care if they were re-runs). My grandchildren don’t live close enough to teach but would like to teach my daughter. She wants to learn but doesn’t seem to catch on, maybe this will help.

    November 23, 2017

My granddaughters, now 7 and 12 have been sewing for 2 years. Their very first project was fleece stocking caps to be distributed by the food pantry. It was a simple project that the oldest continues to do on her own as she was the recipient of great Grandma’s sewing machine, sewing box and a generous supply of fabric. This year’s project is Rare Bears for the Rare Science Foundation and they are thrilled to participate. Teaching them to sew, knit and crochet is another opportunity to pass the skills that were passed on to me to another generation. And, yes, our sewing Saturday’s start with Sewing With Nancy…a habit I’ve had for more years than I can count! Nancy left us a priceless legacy for future generations and I thank you for carrying on her work!

I have been teaching my grandson and daughter to quilt for over 3 years. Both have their own machine that they use and take care of. My grandson began when he was 6 and has been in two quilt shows. My granddaughter began at 6 also with a Christmas Yellow Brick Road. She has been in three quilt shows. The new machine with speed control helps their eye hand coordination. It’s also a great way to teach geometry and math without them knowing it. The best part is time spent with them that will be part of their memories after I am long gone. I love Nancy’s many legacies for us and our progeny.

Teaching my grandchildren can’t start soon enough. Nancy’s common sense way at looking to sewing to bring togetherness with family is something many of us have forgotten over the years…I started many moons ago with my children now is time to start with my grandchildren. The legacy shall go on!

I was so surprised at how easy Nancy and the others made sewing fun! I am almost tempted to start a sewing class for children at our local library. What a fun (!!) way to introduce the concepts to children, and helping them to learn to work step by step to produce a finished item they can enjoy without a lot of stress on exacting. I especially like the set of notions developed just for this program; my children like things that are geared to them, but are used in the “grownup” world!

My dear sweet grandmother sparked my interest in sewing. When I spent Friday nights with her in the 1960s she would let me “sew for fun” on her treadle sewing machine. She sparked my love of sewing at a very young age. She accepted all I did as wonderful and never criticized any part of what I did. She let me grow and develop on my own as a sewer. I am certain her supportive approach is why I love sewing so much today. Thank you Grandma Groff and thank you Nancy Zieman for reminding us to pass on the “fun of sewing” to the young ones.

What a wonderful project to carry on Nancy’s love of sewing. And this first video will be a precious treasure for Nancy’s granddaughters. There will never be another Nancy Zieman. Her memory will be kept alive every time we use the sewing tips and tricks she taught us.

    This is great!
At 5 years old My mom started me hand sewing with thread, buttons, and fabric scraps. Several times I accidentally sewed the cloth to my skirt.
Then we graduated to the machine. She taped a cardboard guide to the right of the needle. By age 12 I was making my Barbie Doll cloths. I now machine embroidery and had an opportunity to teach Mom. It was after Mom passed that I started Quilting and I so wished she was still here so I could teach her. I turned 71 yesterday and I still love sewing.

I have been sewing with my daughters since they were very young. Now my oldest has made about as many quilts as I have. I have twin five year old nephews that I have been sewing for who I am looking forward to sharing the love of sewing with.

Our local PBS station had a “marathon” of sorts for remembrance of Nancy. I really didn’t get a lot out of it. Way too many tears clouding my eyes. What a great loss we have had with her passing! Her life has been one of great achievements. Her teaching videos will hopefully give our younger ones encouragement to sew…as it did for us older ones. It is now up to us, the older generation, to continue to give that knowledge from Nancy to our young ones. Thanks to her family for sharing her with us!

I would love to win this for helping to teach my oldest granddaughter to sew! She has made, with a lot of help from me, a pair of sleep pants for herself and for her daddy, but she wants to learn more. I also have another granddaughter that is quite a bit younger but I want to teach her when she gets old enough to sit still and pay attention.

How awesome. I have 2 granddaughters and one day I hope to teach them how to sew/craft/quilt. They are 3 and 20 months. I will really miss Nancy. She will live on in our hearts, on tv, and books. Rest in peace My Friend.

A beautiful program to end her Sewing with Nancy series. A treasure for her granddaughters! My grandsons are interested in learning to sew, and this would be a great book to continue that process. We’ve been practicing straight stitching on pillow cases. I was thrilled to see the sewing machine foot so their little fingers will be safe! Thank you Nancy for all your years of sewing and tips and patterns, etc. So happy to know that Team Nancy will be continuing on so that we may all learn more great techniques and pass on our love of sewing to future generations so they can also Sew for Fun! Miss you Nancy!

My 4 year old granddaughter and I just made her 1st quilt and she was so proud when it was finished. So glad Nancy was able to give her granddaughters a start with sewing. It’s a gift they will always treasure. Looks like a lot of good projects in this book to keep children interested in sewing.

I have watched Sewing with Nancy for many years and have learned so much! My mom introduced me to sewing and to the show. I have a grandson who is eager to work on sewing projects with me. I’m sure some of the projects will interest him. He likes making hotpads for his mom so we will continue with that for a while.

This is perfect timing. I have been teaching my granddaughter to sew for a little while now. We bought her a sewing machine for Christmas. I love Nancy’s advice ; to have fun and go easy on the rules.
I have not always been able to get “Sewing with Nancy” on tv, very happy to read that I can get it on line. I will definitely look this up.

Thank you so much for continuing Nancy’s blog. I learned to sew from my grandmother. Over the years, I’ve taught many teens to sew at Lakeside Lutheran High School. My own children, 4 daughters and a son, learned to sew at home with me. Now I’m teaching my two granddaughters, Grace age 6 and Charlotte age 4, how to sew. Both of them have been joining me at the sewing machine since they were old enough to crawl up onto my lap!

In the process of teaching my 12 yr. old grand-daughter to make a quilt. We started with the pillow cases and hot pads. Her introduction to my friend, “Mr. Ripper”, was priceless!! We are in the process of moving close to this family, so I may have 3 sewers before long. Would love to have this book to get them started on the right foot.

I love the idea of passing on my love for sewing to my grandchildren. I have already begun by allowing them to sew on my machine, and we have even made pillowcases. Thanks to Nancy and her legacy of making sewing fun! If we don’t teach it to this generation, it may be lost forever!

Other Gma is teaching my older grandchildren to sew/quilt. It seems I need to help the ones here close by, duh! One can sure find the pins that fall on the carpet or spot the pins from pinning the quilt together for quilting. I need the simple projects that they can accomplish easily.
