Prepare your fabrics! Pre-shrink fabrics by steaming and pressing. Then, stabilize fabrics for the sewing process by pressing and starching fabrics with Quilter’s Starch Savvy.
Be sure to measure your sewing machine to select the appropriate size Sewing Machine Cover, we’re making size large!

You’re the designer! Audition your fabric and create a layout. We’re using Bali Batiks Caribbean Collection, by Benartex!

- Cut One 2-1/2″ x 8″ rectangle Bali Batik Caribbean Granite Aqua
- Cut One 2-1/2″ x 8″ rectangle Bali Batik Caribbean Bubbles Turquoise/Multi

- Cut Two 3-3/4″ x 37″ rectangles
- Cut Two 7″ x 37″ rectangles
- Handle Cut One 11″ x 4″ rectangle
- Cut one 32″ x 40″ rectangle for backing
- Cut 110″ of 2-1/2″ strips for binding
Assemble Quilt As You Go: Sewing Machine Cover and Caddy
- Cut out desired size.
- Place wrong side of backing fabric on (unprinted) side of batting. Make sure backing fabric completely covers printed area.
- Baste stitch around outside perimeter pattern line.
Use June Tailor’s Quilt Basting Spray to spray baste batting to backing fabric!
- Use June Tailor’s Fabric Glue Stick to hold piece one in place.
- Place piece one right side up.
Printed lines are for placement only and are not stitching lines!
- Place 2-1/2″ x 8″ rectangle – two, onto 2-1/2″ x 8″ rectangle – one, right side together.
- Stitch with a scant 1/4″ on long side of the rectangle as shown.
- Flip rectangle 2 right side up.
- Use June Tailors Magic Seam Wand to press seam open.
- Continue to place 2-1/2″ x 8″ rectangles by number, right sides together with previous pieces and aligning with placement lines.
- Stitch with a scant 1/4″ on long side of the rectangle as shown.
- Flip rectangles right side up.
- Use June Tailors Magic Seam Wand to press seam open.
- Center and place 2-1/4″ x 37″ rectangles eighteen and nineteen right sides together.
- Stitch with a scant 1/4″ on long side of the rectangle as shown.
- Flip rectangles right side up.
- Use June Tailors Magic Seam Wand to press seam open.
- Continue to place 2-1/2″ x 8″ rectangles by number, right sides together with previous pieces and aligning with placement lines.
- Stitch with a scant 1/4″ on long side of the rectangle as shown.
- Flip rectangles right side up.
- Use June Tailors Magic Seam Wand to press seam open.
Create Handle
- Fold and press in 1/2″ on both ends of 11″ x 4″ rectangle.
Use Clover’s Hot Ruler or Hot Hemmer for precise pressing!
- Place cotton webbing in center of 11″ x 4″ rectangle.
- Fold raw edges towards center, press.
- Center handle in center of Sewing Machine Cover.
- Topstich handle ends to outer Sewing Machine Cover – stitching along handle side, top, and bottom forming a stitched 1″ square with optional “X” pattern as shown.
Create Gussit
- Trim edges of fabric to meet batting.
- Cut out gusset.
- Meet cover gusset seam, stacking side seam over lower center seam. Wonder Clip.Stitch.
- Repeat steps to create opposite gusset seam.
- Using your favorite binding technique, bind Quilt As You Go: Sewing Machine Cover.
- Create Sewing Machine Caddy following directions.

I have not yet done a Quilt As You Go project, but that is on my bucket list. I think placemats or a table runner would be my first project.
