Modify a standard butcher-style apron into a crisscross apron – with four D-Rings and our easy sewing methods!
Crisscross Apron Conversion Supplies
Readymade Apron
Clover’s 6-3/4″ Bordeaux Ultimate Scissors
Clover’s Hot Ruler or Hot Hemmer
Clover’s Fabric Marking Pen or Chaco Liner Pen
Clover’s Wonder Clips or Straight Pins
Schmetz Universal Sewing Machine Needles Size 80
Optional: Tailor’s Clapper
- With Chaco Liner and Clover’s 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge, measure and mark a line on one waist strap at 3” away from apron body.
- Repeat steps and mark a line on opposite waist strap.
- Cut waist straps along marked lines and set straps aside for later use.
- Fold apron in half, with wrong sides together, aligning apron sides and neck strap.
- With Scissors, cut neckline strap in half – at top center.
- Slide two D-Rings onto one 3-inch waist strap tab.
- Fold under 1-inch waist strap toward apron back, then fold under a second 1-inch. Pin or Wonder Clip.
- Repeat steps above and attach two D-Rings to opposite waist strap tab.
- Insert a new Schmetz Universal Sewing Machine Needles Size 80, and stitch along fold on strap tabs.
- Align four strap cut edges and press under 1-inch along all cut edges.
- Using Clover’s Hot Ruler, press under 1-inch along all four strap cut edges.
- Optional: Use a Tailor’s Clapper to set folds.
- Insert one long folded strap end into one short folded neck strap end. Pin or Wonder Clip.
- Repeat steps above and insert remaining long folded strap end into remaining short folded neck strap end. Pin or Wonder Clip.
- Stitch along all four strap folded edges.
- Our Crisscross Apron conversion is complete! No annoying neckbands to rub on the back of your neck!
Optional Variation: Instead of folding strap ends, butt strap ends together and wrap a 2-inch square of faux suede around straps and topstitch.
