In-The-Hoop Crazy Quilting Projects
If you’re a quilter and would like to try embroidery or an embroiderer and would like to try quilting, here’s the perfect solution—crazy quilting. This Victorian-era needle art can be mastered by using an embroidery machine.
Today’s Crazy Quilting with your Embroidery Machine, is this week’s Sewing With Nancy streaming video feature, watch the second episode online with my guest, Eileen Roche.
Wristlet, Eye Glass Case, Evening Bag—all are In-the-Hoop Projects
With crazy quilting, a small accent makes a statement. The three featured projects were all pieced, elegantly embroidered, and even assembled in the embroidery hoop. It’s a magical process!
Watch Today’s Crazy Quilting with your Embroidery Machine (Part 1 and Part 2) on Sewing With Nancy online.
Today’s Crazy Quilting with Your Embroidery Machine, it’s a book with a CD
You too can duplicate your great-grandmother’s crazy quilting designs the easy way with Eileen’s book Today’s Crazy Quilting with Your Embroidery Machine. The 80-page book includes a multiformat CD that features 23 embroidery designs: three different block designs, 12 accent designs, and eight designs to complete three in-the-hoop projects.
Bye for now,

It’s “sew” easy to do and makes use of my machine is a kewl, new way! THANKS for the inspiration…
Linda Heimerl
I come from a long line of quilters and have on my wall a framed piece of this fancy hand-done crazy quilting done by my great-aunt, a milliner, out of leftover velvet scraps. The photos of samples from this book look just like what she did and I would love to be able to duplicate that on my Babylock Unity! What wonderful gifts!

With a new embroidery machine I’m looking for ways to broaden my skill level. This would be an excellent opportunity for matched gift sets, as well as items for my self.
Thanks for the stimulating daily thoughts,
Sandy in EXTREMELY COLD Ks

I have a Baby Lock Ellissimo and use it a lot, but I am NOT a quilter no matter how much I wish I was! I’ve always wanted to do something like this, and these projects are the perfect size and designs to try it. These ITH pieces would make me look I knew what I was doing. Thank you for the opportunity to win it.

The elegance of using an embroidery machine!!!
Jan
I have an embroidery machine and I have a quilting machine both of which have a zillion fancy stitches of which I have probably used two. This will give a purpose for those lovely stitches.
Bev M
I have trouble placing “random” pieces for crazy quilting. This program, book, and cd would be very helpful, and actually get me going. The projects shown are beautiful.
Robyn
Amazing! I’m definitely going to try this one!
Lori
I bought a Janome 12000 with hundreds of stitches so I could learn to machine embroider and to quilt………so many things to learn and this is one on the list. It is so lovely and having sewn clothes for decades maybe I could do something with the bins of scrap I have LOL.
Thanks for all you do to inform and teach Ms. Zieman
Nancy Zieman
Please call me Nancy! Thanks for following along.
Carol Davis
This is a wonderful program for anyone who would like to learn a new quilting technique that uses small pieces of textiles that are too expensive to discard, create something beautiful and learn to use more of the features on their machine. This is a confidence builder.
Fran
I love doing crazy quilting
Karen Nelson
Hoho. I will try this!! Great inspiration for my fancy scraps!!
Sue Waldman
I like the easy and non-structure of the project. Just sit and create!
Linda Pawlak
I am unable to embroider by hand due to a health condition. So, crazy quilting was pretty much out of the picture for me. This technique will finally allow me to try my “hand” at crazy quilting and its beautiful embellishments! Thank you!
Mary
I look forward to trying this. I absolutely love the look of the snap frame shown that I’ve already purchased from Nancy’s Notions. A fellow ASG member brought one she made up to a meeting, and it looks quite snazzy!
Deborah
My husband bought me a big, beautiful sewing machine with embroidery. I now get to learn all of the stitches included. This would be a great help!

I have always challenged myself to do all kinds of embroidery on my Babylock Ellegante. I have even embroidered on balsa wood. But, I have always been intimidated by crazy quilting. Totally stumped as to where to even begin a block or pattern.
I am so excited with this new method and actual step by step instructions. The little purses are soooo cute. They would make nice cosmetic or coupon bags. Thank You for YOUR creativity.
Pat
I love the look of crazy quilting but am afraid I lack the embroidering skills to do it the traditional method. Using my embroidery machine to create these beautiful designs in the hoop seems like the perfect way to make beautiful items.
Donna K
I am new to quilting. This is the no “no fail” way to piece and quilt. I think Crazy Patch is a new love!

I really want to do projects such as this.

I love these projects. I have seen crazy quilting done with decorative stitches on the machine. But, being able to do the entire project in the hoop would be wonderful. Thanks for the motivation!
Viola Ward
I haven’t used my embroidery machine for a long time due to dealing with depression making me have no interest in anything anymore. Seeing this, new to me, way to use it makes me very excited to do so. It’s been so long since I’ve felt excitement! Thanks so much.
Suzy Roefer in Iowa
I have been researching this, it is wonderful that you are showing us what these newer machines can do for us. Crazy quilting is a beautiful way to incorporate scraps and make something beautiful and of meaning to us, very precious!

So cute.

I did something similar to this on a quilt that I finished up for my granddaughter. The quilt was actually a joint effort between her maternal grandmother and myself. Unfortunately, “Nana Chris” passed away before finishing the quilt. So, I finished sewing together the blocks and did the quilting with a variety of embroidery stitches, machine writing the sentiment “wrapped in the warmth of my love forever from Nana” into the design.
mitzi weber
wow! what fun that would be.
Cherry B.
I love crazy patch. I have some blocks to make a quilt, but they were all done on the sewing machine. ITH projects would be absolutely fantastic.

I LOVE the fact that you can do so much in the hoop. It takes the tedious aspect of creation out of the way. I’d love a copy of this book to learn more about how to do these things myself with my Embroidery machine here at home.
Sandra Nettles
It would be great to know how to do this correctly, as my last effort resulted in little “spaces” too small to sew fabric and not have my decorative stitching running over each other.
Sandra Nettles
I would like to learn to do this technique properly. I have done it improperly and been left with small openings for fabric that cause the decorative stitching to overlap.
M Kirby
The small turquoise bag has made me a convert. I would love to try this as gifts for my daughters and granddaughters.
Barbara R.
I’ve been saving scraps of fancy fabrics for years and would love to have a primer on how to make a crazy quilt the right way instead of my usual by – guess – and – by – golly method!

Nothing is more beautiful than our ancestor’s needlework. I have often gazed in awe at the crazy quilting stitches in a museum. What is best about doing this in a hoop is the opportunity to actually have a crazy quilt in a reasonable amount of time! I LOVE the crazy quilt purse!

Mary-Anne
Absolutey exquisite….I have visions running through my head on what I could create – the book would be a blessing. Thanks for sharing your talent and inspiration with us.

Sandra A
I have been accumulating materials for crazy quilts for several years and am now ready to jump right into this creative and artistic style of quilting. I am going to purchase a new sewing machine and want to buy the brand and model you recommend for both quilting and embroidery.
