Basic Supplies for NEW! 2025 Nancy Zieman Productions Free! Block of the Month Mystery Quilt Series!

All blocks will feature fabrics from one NEW! Dazzle Dots Fat Quarter Fabric Pack  Finished quilt measures approximately 74” x 86″. For this quilt project, you will need: 

• One NEW! Dazzle Dots Fat Quarter Fabric Pack by Christa Watson for Benartex
• Exclusive No-Hassle Triangles Ruler by Team NZP
• No-Hassle Triangles Gauge by Nancy Zieman for Clover
• 5-1/4 yd. White Block Background & Border Fabric: Superior Solids White, or Rhapsody White Tone-on-Tone; or choose Black Block Background & Border Fabric: Superior Solids Black, or Cotton Shot Charcoal!
• 1 yd. Binding Fabric, choose a Coordinating Dazzle Dots Fabric by the yard.

• 2025 NZP Mystery Block of the Month Sewing Tutorials started on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
• As always, there’s no cost to join and no need to formally sign up.
• On the third Saturday of each month in 2025, we will be posting a new quilt block tutorial.

October 2025 BoM Block of the Month Planner

Prepare your fabrics! Pre-shrink fabrics by steaming and pressing. Then, stabilize fabrics for the sewing process by pressing and starching fabrics with Quilter’s Starch Savvy.

October 2025 NZP Block of the Month Quilt Blocks

The assembled block is 12-1/2″ square; 12″ finished square.

This month we are featuring one block, and repeating the steps five times to make a total of five blocks. Follow along as we demonstrate how to create the October Quilt Blocks.

This month we are illustrating the Dazzle Dots Confetti Drop Lime/Multi Fabric, along with the Dazzle Dots Snazzy Squares Orange/Red Fabric as the block background fabric.

Cut Fabrics for FIVE May Quilt Blocks

Using the Exclusive No-Hassle Triangles Ruler by Team NZP, cut block squares, below. The finished blocks will measure 3-1/2″

• Cut TWENTY 3-7/8″ squares from Dazzle Dots Snazzy Squares Orange/Red Fabric Fat Quarter.

When using the No-Hassle Triangles Ruler to cut squares, aligning fabric is easy … just follow the color-coordinating markings! Finished 1/2-Square Quilt Block Cutting Lines are marked on Ruler in PURPLE. For the Mystery Block of the Month we are cutting 3-7/8″ squares that will make finished 3-1/2″ blocks.

• Start by cutting four 3-7/8″ fabric strips aligning the fabric to the 3-7/8″ Purple coordinating markings along the length of the No-Hassle Triangles Ruler.

• Cut the four 3-7/8″ fabric strips into TWENTY 3-7/8″ squares by rotating the fabric strips 90-degrees and aligning the fabric strips to the left and top 3-7/8″ Purple coordinating markings at the bottom of the No-Hassle Triangles Ruler.

• Cut TWENTY 3-7/8″ squares from Dazzle Dots Confetti Drop Lime/ Multi Fabric.

• Cut FOUR 3-7/8″ Crosswise fabric strips from Block Background Fabric, shown here in Sunburst Dots White Tone-on-Tone Fabric. Feel free to choose white or black…solid or tone-on-tone print fabric.
• From each crosswise fabric strip, sub-cut ELEVEN 3-7/8″ squares from Block Background Fabric, for a total of FORTY FOUR squares (we will be using FORTY squares this month.)

Construct HALF-SQUARE TRIANGLES using Dazzle Dots Snazzy Squares Orange/ Red Fabric

All seam allowances are scant 1/4″ unless otherwise stated.

Create FORTY 3-1/2″ finished Half-Square triangle blocks from the 3-7/8″ Dazzle Dots Snazzy Squares Orange/ Red Fabric  and Block Background Fabric squares, using the directions below.

• Align 3-7/8″ squares right sides together, in pairs of one Squares Pink/Fuchsia (dark fabric) and Block Background Fabric (light fabric); pin. Create TWENTY block set pairs.

Mark block set pairs using a Clover’s No-Hassle Triangles Gauge, and Clover’s Fine Marking Pen or a Frixion Marking Pen, using the directions below.

• The left side of the No-Hassle Triangles Gauge is designated to create Half-Square Triangle quilt blocks. Depress button on sliding portion of the gauge, and move to 3-7/8″ Half-Square Triangle setting.

• Place Clover’s No-Hassle Triangles Gauge on the block set pairs, corner to corner. Match corner marks of gauge with corner of block set pairs. Mark fabric through center die cut openings on gauge, with Clover’s Fine Marking Pen or a Frixion Marking Pen.
• Using the marking pen and a ruler, connect the marked lines on the block pair set to create one solid line center mark.
• Repeat steps, marking all FORTY 3-7/8″ Half-Square triangle block set pairs.

Stitch Blocks

• Insert a new Size 75 Schmetz Quilting Needle and attach 1/4″ Quilting Presser Foot to sewing machine.
• Align the right edge of the 1/4″ Quilting Presser Foot along one side of center mark of the block pair set, stitch.
• “Kiss” the next block set to the stitched block and chain stitch (stitching continually) from one block pair set to the next.

• Rotate block pair sets 180 degrees, stitch along the other side of center marked lines.

• Using a scissors, clip threads between chain stitched block pair sets, and remove pins.

• Cut block pair sets apart along center marked lines with a rotary cutter, ruler, and mat.

• Using a Tailor’s Clapper to set the stitching, press seams flat.

• Using a Tailor’s Clapper to set the seams, open blocks and press seam allowances, using the directions below, to allow blocks to “nest” when pieced together:
• Press TWENTY blocks seam allowance towards dark fabric.

• Press TWENTY blocks seam allowance towards light fabric.

• You have created FORTY 3-1/2″ Half-Square triangle blocks cut from Orange/ Red (dark fabric) and Block Background Fabric (light fabric)—TWENTY blocks pressed towards dark fabric, and TWENTY blocks pressed towards light fabric.

Stitch Blocks Sections

• Layout EIGHT 3-1/2″ Half-Square Triangle Blocks, as show below, ensuring blocks are positioned with correct pressed seam allowance direction. Rotate blocks as needed.

• Place Half-Square Triangle Blocks from top row right sides together, in pairs. Pin.
• Press seams flat, then press open or to one side–using a Tailor’s Clapper to set the seams.
• Repeat steps above with bottom row.

• Place top row to bottom row right sides together. Pin.
• Stitch.
• Press seams flat, then press open or to one side–using a Tailor’s Clapper to set the seams.

• Repeat steps to create FOUR MORE joined Half-Square Triangle Blocks sections for a total of FIVE.

Construct HALF-SQUARE TRIANGLES using Dazzle Dots Confetti Drop Lime/Multi Fabric and Block Background Fabrics

• Repeat steps above to create FORTY 3-1/2″ finished Half-Square triangle blocks cut from Dazzle Dots Confetti Drop Lime/Multi Fabric (dark fabric) and Block Background Fabric (light fabric)—TWENTY blocks pressed towards dark fabric, and TWENTY blocks pressed towards light fabric.

Stitch Blocks Sections

1. Layout EIGHT 3-1/2″ Half-Square Triangle Blocks, as show below, ensuring blocks are positioned with correct pressed seam allowance direction. Rotate blocks as needed.

• Place Half-Square Triangle Blocks from top row right sides together, in pairs. Pin.
• Press seams flat, then press open or to one side–using a Tailor’s Clapper to set the seams.
• Repeat steps above with bottom row.

• Place top row onto bottom row right sides together. Pin.
• Stitch.
• Press seams flat, then press open or to one side–using a Tailor’s Clapper to set the seams.

• Repeat steps to create FOUR MORE joined Half-Square Triangle Blocks sections for a total of FIVE.

Join Block Halves

• Layout TWO Half-Square Triangle Blocks Sections, as show below. Rotate Block Sections as needed.

• Place top half section onto bottom half section right sides together. Pin.
• Stitch to create full blocks.
• Press seams flat, then press open or to one side–using a Tailor’s Clapper to set the seams.

• Repeat steps to create FOUR MORE complete blocks for a total of FIVE October Blocks.

The October Blocks are now complete!
