Nancy enjoyed sewing with her granddaughters so much, that she was inspired to write a children’s book with a sewing theme. Our friend Philip Ashby created the amazing illustrations. Nancy’s entertaining story about a fictional town named Sewland is showcased in The Flying Sewing Machine book, and is now available at Nancy’s Notions.

They can sew on their own now. The youngest two are starting to learn to quilt also.

I was blessed to meet her in 2007, when my husband and I were traveling in our small trailer and took a detour to Beaver Dam. This book is especially timely for me. I have two grandsons, 7 & 9. The nine year old had a sewing machine on his list. Plus he’s shown interest in my sewing and quilting. The machine he requested was a working toy. This book along with some hand work and educational materials will make a good catch gap for me so I can save for a lower model of real sewing machine. At their ages I think they’re ready with supervision, to start a life long habit of sewing skills. After all 9 is old enough to start the sewing project in 4-H. I’d like to think Nancy would approve.
