- 2024 NZP Mystery Block of the Month Series kicked off on Saturday, January 20, 2024.
- As always, there’s no cost to join and no need to formally sign up.
- On the third Saturday of each month in 2024, we will be posting a new quilt block tutorial.
- Block designs will be stitched each month. Each month we will be stitching multiples of the same block design.
- 2024 NZP Block of the Month is fat quarter friendly.
- 2024 NZP Block of the Month project lasts 12 months.

September 2024 NZP Block of the Month Quilt Blocks
Keep your fabric choices sorted using this handy Fabric Planner diagram. Download the planner, make notes, and/or pin cut block elements to the planner to remind you of the fabric placements for the September 2024 NZP Block of the Month Quilt Blocks.
Prepare your fabrics! Pre-shrink fabrics by steaming and pressing. Then, stabilize fabrics for the sewing process by pressing and starching fabrics with Quilter’s Starch Savvy.
September 2024 NZP Block of the Month Quilt Blocks
This block is 12-1/2″ square; 12″ finished square.
Approx. Finished Quilt Size 60″ x 72″

Cut Fabrics for Four September 2024 Block of the Month Quilt Blocks
Bali Batik Tropical Cove:
- Cut One 12-7/8″ squares from Bali Batik Tropical Cove Cane Leaf Purple/Green Fabric.
- Cut One 12-7/8″ squares from Bali Batik Tropical Cove Pathways Purple Fabric.
- Cut Two 12-7/8″ squares from Background Fabric.
Using the Exclusive No-Hassle Triangles Ruler by Team NZP, cut block squares above.
Construct Blocks
All seam allowances are scant 1/4″ unless otherwise stated.
Half-Square Triangles (HSTs)
- Create Four 1/2-square triangle blocks cut from Bali Batik Tropical Cove Cane Leaf Purple/Green, Bali Batik Tropical Cove Pathways Purple and Background Fabric.
- Align 12-7/8″ squares right sides together, in pairs of lights and darks. Pin.
- Mark blocks using a Clover’s No-Hassle Triangles Gauge, and Clover’s Fine Marking Pen or a Frixion Marking Pen.
- The left side of the No-Hassle Triangles Gauge is designated to create 1/2-square triangle quilt blocks. Depress button on sliding portion of the gauge, and move to all the way to the bottom of the gauge.
- With squares right sides together. Place Clover’s No-Hassle Triangles Gauge on block set, corner to corner. Match corner marks of gauge with corner of block sets. Mark fabric through center die cut openings on gauge, with Clover’s Fine Marking Pen or a Frixion Marking Pen.
- Repeat steps, marking all 12-7/8″ square block sets.
Stitch Blocks
- Insert a new Size 75 Schmetz Quilting Needle and attach 1/4″ Quilting Presser Foot to sewing machine.
- Align 1/4″ Quilting Presser Foot along one side of center mark, stitch.
- “Kiss” the next block set to the stitched block and chain stitch (stitching continually) from one block to the next.
- Rotate blocks 180 degrees, stitch along the other side of center marked lines.
- Clip threads between chain stitched blocks.
- Cut blocks apart along center marked lines with a rotary cutter, ruler, and mat.
- Press seams flat.
- Open blocks and press seams open or press seams towards darker fabric – using a Tailor’s Clapper to set the seams.
- You have created Four 12-1/2″ 1/2-square triangle blocks cut from Bali Batik Tropical Cove Cane Leaf Purple/Green, Pathways Purple and background fabrics.
- The September Bali Batik Tropical Cove Quilt Blocks Are Complete!

- Repeat steps above stitching all Four September Prismatics Blocks.
This block is 12-1/2″ square; 12″ finished square.

Cut Fabrics for Four September 2024 Block of the Month Quilt Blocks
Prismatics:
- Cut One 6-7/8″ squares from Prismatics Leaves Indigo Fabric.
- Cut One 6-7/8″ squares from Prismatics Small Tossed Leaf Dark Turquoise Fabric.
- Cut Two 6-7/8″ squares from Background Fabric.
- Repeat steps above stitching all Four September Prismatics Blocks.
- You have created Four 12-1/2″ 1/2-square triangle blocks cut from Prismatics Glassine Texture Green, Small Tossed Leaf Dark Turquoise and background fabric.
