Prep Before You Sew
Gather your sewing supplies and prep your fabric for sewing. Included with the Official 2019%20I%20Sew%20For%20Fun%20Kids’%20Sewing%20Challenge%20Cinch%20Sack%20Kit is the Cinch Sack Sewing Pattern. When you receive your challenge kit, open the package and locate the Cinch Sack Pattern. Read all the pattern directions, before beginning.
Before the sewing process, pressing and starching the fabric adds a bit of stiffness that helps make cutting and sewing easier.
Cutting Directions
- Using a scissors, or rotary cutter, ruler, and mat; cut two 17″ x 21″ fabric rectangles for cinch sack front and back.
To easily identify the cinch sack top, during the sewing process, place a piece of painter’s tape—on both fabric rectangles—on fabric right side, near the top of the 17″ wide edge.
As soon as you receive your 2019%20I%20Sew%20For%20Fun%20Kids’%20Sewing%20Challenge%20Cinch%20Sack%20Kit you may start making your cinch sack! You’re the designer: You may choose to use a different color ribbon for the straps, add a patch pocket from your stash fabric, or decorate your cinch sack as desired. Remember, you must use the Mr. Owl and Friends fabric, the Cinch Sack Sewing Pattern, and one I Sew For Fun sewing tool—all included with the challenge kit!

The randomly selected winner of Eileen Roche’s book, Machine Embroidery in 6 Easy Lessons from Designs in Machine Embroidery is Liz Fergus.
Her comment is: My block is confidence. I keep putting off working on embroidery because I feel like I must put a lot of time into being sure I really understand what I am about to do. I want to do it correctly and enjoy what I am doing. This book with “6 Easy Lessons” is very appealing and would get me going.

I would love to have this pressure foot to help my granddaughter sew straighter seams.

My grandson is five and already an enthusiastic sewist. I’m thinking this project would make a great “going to grandma’s” cinch sack and organizer. And what’s not to love about that Riley Blake Designs fabric? I know he’ll love it at first sight., as did I. Thanks for this opportunity to advance his love of sewing with this wonderful project.
Susan
My eight year old granddaughter is into making things and the Cinch Sack would be of interest. This could be a fun activity for a small group of children with adults. They could put some fun things in their newly created sacks!
Carolyn T
The kids’ challenge wiil be great for my great niece and nephews. All have sewn many projects with their grandmother starting at age 3 or 4! She and I were taught by our dear Mom, but we were older, probably 7 or 8. Thanks, Mom.
Clovis
Nice foot. No kids to do the challenge.

You know, I purchased the I Sew booklet for my granddaughters about 2 years ago. They were NOT interested in the projects at all. They seemed too “babyish” for them and they were six at the time. Now nine, they sew skirts, shorts, vests, and stuffed Linda Carr animal toys. Can Nancy’s Notions create materials for more experienced child sewers?
Teri
My grandson is very eager to learn to sew.
C DeLamare
Great foot to share with children; unfortunately they are not interested at this time. They prefer to comment and give great suggestions in my creative sewing process.
DebbieW
I don’t have children close by of that age, but this foot would be good for seniors as well who are hesitant to continue sewing.
Hannah W
My daughter would love to participate.
Barb McCrea
I purchased this sew safe foot for my granddaughter. She suffers with epilepsy but loves to sew. I feel she is safer with the foot on the machine if she has a seizure while sewing. I recommend this foot for anyone with a seizure disorder for safety’s sake.

Not sure – the cost of the kit seems a little high.

I love that you are opening this up but why only first 25 who buy it? It should be really open to all who is wanting to try in that age group but comparing a 6 yr old to a 15 yr old just really does not seam fair. The price is extremely high. So only the richer families who pose their kids in front of a sewing machine take a picture, sew it for them or better yet have someone else do it, then put it on them a take a picture just makes my mind crazy. It is the ones who have nothing or next to nothing, sewing on a hand me down sewing machine that love to sew because they just feel it is the only thing they can do right. And in school the kids either make fun of them for not having name brand clothes or they love the wild new stuff the come up with. My granddaughter loves to sew, loves to fabric shop, loves to create. Together we went around and gathered row by row jr kits. We saved for a year! We got them all, she did all but the cutting and ironing for obvious reasons but we are working on that. Sewed it all herself. Entered in county fair along with a handmade doll, won 1st place on both, then went back to her favorite stores to show them her quilt because she was so excited. She then won $25 gift certificate from the store. She was in high heaven. We did it all from kits because that is how they do the jr quilts, but I got all the free patterns and she did too and if they would not give it to her, because she is a kid, she let them know one day she will need fabric for her quilts and she was not coming there to get any of it. She got them all. Lol but we as sewers are here to promote not limit. When you limit in such big masses, you tear down. We go to clothing giveaways to see what clothes we can make into something else. It is hard…..jJust saying.
On another note, I love the needle protector foot. I have run the needle over my finger twice in my history and wow is all I can say. Had to have help getting my finger dislodge from the broken needle in my finger. Not fun. I bought one from another company but not real happy with it. Need to save to get us one of these. Wish they come more like the first sewing machines you see at Walmart. Thank you!

Is there anything in your kits/instructions that would work for special kids, i.e. ADHD/DD? My neighbors daughter is a special education teacher and thinking of my early home education classes in the 1950’s seems there must be something out there which could be precut and put together without using sharp instruments.
Nancy Zieman Productions, LLC
Hi Mary, We recommend the big sewing partner prepare, cut, pre-press all fabrics and supplies – according to the pattern. Then the sewing time at the machine will be minimal and enjoyable.

I have 4 granddaughters that sew with me. Yes, they would like To enter the sew challenge. How many spots are left?
