Prepare Fabrics:
Pre-shrink project fabrics by steaming and pressing, and steaming and pressing a second time, and then spray starch and press one more time – using June Tailor’s® Starch Savvy.
Cut Fabric and Interfacing:
- Cut one 19″ x 19″ square Red Elegance Floral Fabric by Team NZP for Riley Blake Designs for Pillow “Palette” Front.
- Cut one 19″ x 46″ rectangle Gray Knit Stretch Jersey Knit Fabric for Pillow Back.
- Cut one 19″ x 19″ square Pellon Sof-Shape Interfacing.
- Cut TWO 4″ x 19″ rectangles Pellon Easy-Knit Interfacing.
- Following manufacturer’s instructions, press Easy-Knit Interfacing rectangles to short ends of Pillow Back/Gray Knit Stretch Jersey Knit Fabric.
- Following manufacturer’s instructions, press Sof-Shape Interfacing square to back of Pillow “Palette” Front/Red Elegance Floral Fabric.
- Position Pillow “Palette” Front fabric square wrong side up on ironing board.
- Using Clover’s Hot Ruler, press under 1/2″ toward fabric back, along top and bottom edges only.
- Fold Pillow “Palette” Front, right sides together, meeting pressed under edges. Place a pin at fold — marking center. Repeat placing pin at opposite folded edge.
- Align Pillow “Palette” Front wrong side to center of Pillow Back right side, matching center marking pins. Pin Pillow “Palette” Front to Pillow Back.
Be sure to position Pillow Palette Front to Pillow Back — aligning “cut edges” of Pillow Palette Front to “cut edges” of Pillow Back.
- Using a Schmetz Universal Size 90 Needle, Topstitch Pillow “Palette” Front to Pillow Back around all four edges of Pillow “Palette” Front.
- Using Clover’s Hot Ruler, turn under 2″ on each narrow end of Pillow Back; pin.
- Using a wobble stitch, stitch (or hem) narrow ends of Pillow Back — near cut edges, at both ends.
- Fold Pillow Back top over Pillow “Palette” Front, right sides together — folding along top edge of Pillow “Palette” Front. Fold Pillow Back bottom upwards — folding along Pillow “Palette” Front lower edge, covering Pillow Back top. Pin at side seams.
- Stitch side seams with 1/2″ seam allowance — creating an envelope pillow cover.
- Turn pillow cover right-side out using Clover’s Point 2 Point Turner, and shape pillow corners.
- Insert Pellon’s 18″ Throw Pillow Form through Palette Pillow Back envelope opening.
- Your Palette Pillow is complete!

Her comment is: Fantastic bag, the fabrics look ‘delicious’. Personally, I would use Nancy’s Kids Activity Bag to carry small knitting or piecing projects w/ notions in the outer pocket. Great tutorial and explanation for using all the products when making this bag, thanks.

I understand that your organization is trying to compete with the Nancy’s Notions website that was sold to Tacony years ago. Unfortunately that desire to compete has reduced your blog to nothing less than a ad for the new site. What was best about Nancy’s blog was that it was designed for users not for the commercial sources she recommended. Please correct this very unfortunate commercial bent to your website.

I need to spice up my deck chairs. This pattern is inspiring, as are your tips and techniques!
Lillian K
I TOTATALLY agree with Pat Howell’s comment above. I have not enjoyed the new blog format or the Stitch It Sisters (nothing personal toward the Sisters). Nancy made very helpful, detailed videos with excellent instructions for using templates, etc. She did use items she sold, however these items were limited to just a few items (pattern books, ruler/templates).
I know we can’t go backward to the “old days”, but I would like to see less advertising and more instructions/tutorials.
Thanks,
